I little bit of flash and no interior detail. I will fit a pilot to hide most of the empty space
Inside parts painted black just to be sure.
I gave some parts a coat of interior green but this wasn't needed at all.
The fit is decent for this old mold. It needs a little help to get the wing angle right.
Filler is needed on some of the connection points.
I removed the molded gunside scope becauseit didn't look very good or in scale. I hope to make a now one or leave it of. I also recribed some panal lines after sanding. The raised rivit detial is unfortunately gone.
The landing gear is glued in the up position. The kit doesn't give the option to display this plane in flight so I had to remove some material to make this work.
Some parts are primed with Ammo one shot black primer.
The pilot figure looks terible in this kit(right). So I will use on form the spare box. Its not a japanese piot but i will take it.
Not to bad. I still need more practise on figure painting but i'm reasonably happy.
Just a simple scratch build behind the pilot to fix the gap and add some detail.
Everything primed black again.
canopy and windshield are paintend blue green metallic as a inside frame colour before they and the pilot are glued inplace.
Inside of the cocpit is also painted.
The pilot fits great although it is not form this kit.
And again primed black for the 3rd time.
Pre shading with white. Always some nice airbrush practise in this scale.
Sky gray tamiya for the underside.
IJN green Tamiya for the upperside. Not the correct shade but I like the look of it.
The masking went great.
The decals are unfortunately very bad.
I don't mind that some are to long that is something i can fix. But they don't react well to decal solvent and break very easily.
They also don't conform to the surface detail. The raised detail probably doesn't help
I trimmed all the decals anf fixed some of them with paint in the best way i could. After that I gave it a clear coat. The upper side was give na wash of medium tan for ammo. This was probably a bit to much but I wasn't a focused anymore after the decal problems.
the underside was given a wash a dark night for ammo
I painted the exhaust by hand with revell paints.
I gave the model a light matte coat to keep a bit of shine.
Silver chipping is added with a brush.
I saw some copper details on other models of the ki-43 so I added it to the not very detailed engine.
I added de exhaust smoke with a mix of lamp black and burned umber oil paint. I also added some dust to the walk way and some with oil paint to the control surfaces to indicate other materials.
Also some dust around the wheels.
The canopy unfortunately is ruined forn the inside. I didn't think thing true and the abcence of a cockpit floor and gear bay means that all your paint can enter the cocpit and hit your canopy for the inside.
But I decently happy with the result for the very old and also fast build.
I made this model with the wheels up because I wanted to try and make a little display stand for common materials. I started with a few layers a thick packing paper.
These are glued with super glue and pva. the size is 7cm by 7cm.
I sanded the sides to get more even sides. I coated it with acrylic putty to give it some texture and side the paper layers.
I added 2 cottonbud sticks to hold the plane.
Black primer.
I painted the base white and added a red dot to one side.
A light brown wash id added and a but af white dry brush with oil paints to fade the paint.
I super glued the sticks in place and added this support piece to one of them.
I saw this old kit at a hobby store and it looked fun ot build. I want to make it a fast project to work on.
The build was fast and I tested some new thinks on the stand I made.
Unfortunaly this kit is very old so some problems did occure during this build.
Problems:
- Very bad decals
The scheme options are very nice but the decals crack easily and they are translucent. some are also to big.
- no cockpit floor and gear bay
This sound like something that is common with these old kit but I ruined my end result because of this. I added the canopy before painting but that resulted I paint getting stuck on the inside of the canopy because the spray for the airbrush can hit the canopy form to wheel bay that also doesn't exist.
- Very bad pilot figure.
The pilot figure looks really bad and you need to add one to hide the empty void of a cockpit.
