Personal interest:
This model represents the OA-10C Thunderbolt II aircraft flown by the USAF and ANG in 1996. Many units operating the A-10 rotated in and out of the theater throughout Operation Southern Watch. Although the A-10 was designed for the anti-armor mission, in Operation Southern Watch it was used more often in the Forward Air Control mission, which involved observing the movements of Iraqi ground forces and calling in airstrikes. The OA-10C was also on call to provide close air support should a search-and-rescue mission need to be performed for a downed pilot.
