Greek Unimog
This is the real truck we saw on vacation.
This is the kit I'm modding to match it.
I'm definitely used to starting from something a little bigger than this!
30 microscopic pieces later...
40 microscopic pieces later, and some paint, and the chassis is basically done!
All that work on the chassis, just so I could find out the wheelbase was too long 🙁
Shortened the chassis and the base of the truck bed
getting the cab together
scabbing in some scrap to create the little bump-outs on the hood
Cutting down the ambulance rear end to create the little workbed on this guy
cut down, and first pieces painted green!
gotta put some tiny trim around the edges, I think.
The instructions offered no help at all for how to keep all this stuff aligned during assembly. So I've looked these pieces over a million times now, and I think I'll do it like this –>
rear wall
dash
fenders and doors
grill. Now I gotta keep this thing banded together.
hood
roof and windshield. Everything fits!
After some setbacks, including a major paint spill, I'm back at this lil guy. I had that whole rear end together and trimmed out... and it was too wide. 🙁 So I tore it all apart, shaved it down, and rebuilt the walls from scratch with strips of superglue-infused cardboard instead of the previous plastic.
Main parts are all together and looking pretty good. Just a few details left to hopefully tighten it up! 🙂

The rock in the back is the rock under the trailer wheel in the photo of the real truck. I assume they take it with them wherever they go. 🙂
Scratch-built the exhaust pipe from a piece of sprue! 🙂
The bracket under the bumper ain't perfect, but it gets the vibe right
it doesn't look better this close up, but I like the little lights on the rear end 🙂

Michael KohlI like all the mods you did. Turned out fine. The civil attire and the short wheel base suits it well. I put my ACE kit aside after a few pieces as it is nothing for a quick side build. Nice to see yours finished.

Modding a tiny Unimog ambulance kit to match this awesome truck we saw parked on a mountain road in Greece last year. I would've preferred it in 1:24, so hopefully my hands will be steady enough to do a decent job of it. ?
