Thanks István, any idea why the masking tape is marking the paint? The second coat I left for 7 days but the masking tape still ruined it!

@ Nik.
It's hard to see properly but, it looks like the tape is leaving residue. That's easily solved, by some kitchen towel, with a couple of drops of WD40. It won't harm the paint. However, you will need to wash it off with soapy water, after. I usually clear coat, my final finish, before I mask anything? Let each coat, have sufficient drying time. If you gave it a day per coat, then that should be a good guide? A lot depends on temperature and humidity, so we're all slightly different. I'd also consider buying new tape. I've had this happen to me. If your tape has been stood in sunlight or near a heat source, then the glue goes weird.

@Bozzer thanks v much! I will definitely do that next time. No I didn't clear coat it as the Tamiya paint finish came out well. In future should I base coat, final coat, decal and then clear coat? I think? I agree this place is great for helping each other, cant beat it!

@nik. Wash the plastic in soapy water and let it air dry. Prime with Tamiya fine primer. Quick rub with some fine grit, that's wet. (Alclad do a great little kit of various grits, for just over a tenner) Final coat. Clear coat. Decals. Clear coat.
I'll be honest and say, I don't always stick to that, but that's because of some of the trucks I build. It's difficult to clear coat, when the glass parts (clear parts) are in. However, on a car shell, I do it exactly like that.
Hope this helps Nik, and greetings from Manchester.

Oh Nik!
Not sure if you're aware, but Halfords do a large rattle can, of plastic primer, for just over the price of a Tamiya can?
Make sure you get the plastic primer though.
Save yourself a few quid, in the long term 👍
