This week started my next model, another Spanish Civil War ME 109, E-1 this time. Looks like a fine little kit. More detail than I was expecting.

Nice start 👍. I just cracked one of these open myself and SH has indeed done a great job on this kit.

Looks like a great start already! That engine looks cool, I would also be tempted to display it open!

Ok no more photos for a while.. I assemble the engine, cockpit sub assembly, then followed the instructions re: fuselage halves. The cockpit tub was not an issue but das machinen engine was nicht for finger gepoken. Did more damage than a Repubilcan Polikarpov. Brackets came off, a machine gun broke as I did 'adjustments' hehe. I test fit where I can re - major parts but the engine and fuselage I did not. I gently removed the engine and took the smaller parts from the engine and placed the engine back after fuselage assembly and now am fixing brackets and guns before placing them back. With the engine in the body, I can now see better the relationships between the parts. Still want to show engine without cowling if I can do so without embarrassment.

Ok, we definitely have feature creep on this project. Since I want to keep the engine exposed, I have added a German truck and Luftwaffe accessory package. I will put the cowling and bits in maintenance box and or in the back of the truck. This will take a while. Maybe my first diorama in 50+ years...

I may have over-weathered the aircraft. But then again, it will be shown undergoing 'maintenance'...

Watching in admiration, Rudy. It looks like a very interesting kit, and the challenges will all be worth while 😉

Recently started work on Cargo Truck... Slow progress but getting there. Bits of two other kits to follow. Then figure out how to make the diorama base etc...

Hister, thanks for the tip. I searched buntfarbenanstrich and recognized the colour scheme. Dr. Google revealed several articles on the Spanish Civil War and buntfarbenanstrich - the colour used up to 1937 at least. I saw pictures of several Pz I in the 3 colours (not black demarcation lines) and others in grey or dark-blue grey camo. My cargo truck kit came with another cab and I will do the other cab as the 3 colours. Like I said I am 'making' things up on this. If it was not for the engine detail, so no cowling on the bird, -- evolving to accessories and a truck and a dio, I would be finished!

My local model club, members who submit to events, have discussions about "What is" a Diorama, Vignette, or simply a Base.... You submit to the wrong class or define your creation incorrectly - oh well! I enjoy the process, the journey not the destination
