There was a fugly green rug in the back which I created with some turf and then spray painted with a 3d printed mask to get the stripes. Slept on it many times so recreated from memory
All the parts basically painted up. The ivory white resembles the pretty beat up white interior that the bus had. Since it was originally painted in a baby blue color, some parts are blue
In the bus we had a book for volkswagen owners, it came in handy many times. This was recreated with an inkjet printer and then I split the photo paper and glued the pages together and added some thin brown wash to get a worn look
The decals came from Phoxy design in the UK who prints with a white backing. My own printed decals showed to much of the black background and had to be discarded. Came out great.
In 1995 5 young men fresh out of the army bought a bus, said farewell to their mothers and drove south, with the promise to make a phone call every now and then. The trip took us 3 weeks and went from southern Sweden to Bruxelles, Paris, St Tropez, Monaco, Florence, and Venice. During the weeks we slept all 5 in the bus (one in the front, three on the floor, and one on top of the engine). During the trip we encountered one massive breakdown, a break-in, a flat tire, sunburns, and sickness, but spirits were high and everything was handled in stride.
After it's return the bus lived for a while longer, happily honking every time you turned left and most often simply refusing to get the gears shifted. It ended it's days on a junkyard a year later, the engine being totally broken down and with repair costs no one could take at the time.
And yes, our mother's got their calls, but only when the money ran out ?
