My father and mother were both Sharmy.............I am not so good in relative abbreviations but my sister is more from him than me. I look more like his brother or my second uncle. Anyway, his pictures are not really all with me as his wife never gave them to anybody............she still have them.

Steve Wilson
I understand why she has them still, but maybe she might let you copy them...

does anyone have decals of Uncle Ali's spitfire ? or maybe some generic EAF decals that i could use on the MK 22 in 1/72?
29 June 2012, 18:15
John Bollig
Sherif, I was wondering what would be the proper colors to use when painting Uncle Ali's plane in 1/72 scale. ? Do not want to offend anyone by displaying the incorrect colors ?
29 June 2012, 18:19
Sherif Sharmy
It was bare metal and not camo. I have the Matchbox 1/32 kit as well as the 3rd photo. Spitfire 22 were all bare metal. It will be easy painting but of decals, I am not so sure but the one I have is from......................errrrr...............not so sure i will look and let you know

This was added in 1980`s with an old magazine called scale aircraft modelling by Allan W. Hall

Remember, it is in a nylon bag thats why it looks like some parts are out of color.
Also, the sizes i wrote in a previous message is what i am seeing on my monitor so I am not so sure about printers as i never did that before.

Sherif, Thank you, bare metal right and the decals are going to make it really interesting. Have never done a early 1950's EAF plane so this will be something nice. Hopefully I will do your uncles plane well.

When is the scramble?
My uncle was in the air force till 1964 when he was forced out during nasser`s regime as he demanded more protection to airports and particularly pens for planes and more dispersal of aircraft to satellite strips but to no avail. Remember, my uncle came from a rich family during farouk`s rule and he was considered, like mamy others, anti nasser. But, his point of view with others proved right during the six day war. Saddat appointed all of them as consultants after nasser`s death and all were architects of the defense of airports during the 1973 war...................good luck John and as soon as i finish my room i am going to start with the matchbox kit too. Cheers

I think that your uncle was very brave and very wise in his stance on dispersal of planes and blast pens for planes. We need to consult with each other on the planes and remember that we all draw inspiration from your uncle and other pilots of all stripes and colors.
