Hi Adam, seems to be a naval gun. Obviously it is a British 12 pdr.:

Do you have some photos from the back side? Cheer, Christian

Christian Bruer
Because of neighbours?! 😉

I don't thing the range is enough on a 12 pdr, the garden was as long as my street!

Maybe it is only for close defence. May you take a looke inside his barn.

@Steve: Think my cat would catch the shell in his teeth and think it was a bird, seen him stop 2 large Rottweilers in there tracks and cower behind there master, who also looked a bit worried 😉
@Adam: Do`nt agree we NEED all the stuff we want😉 at least thats what i tell the misses😉

Looks very naval to me! Christian, what would ya say? 15cm from a "Hilfskreuzer"?
Could be possible?

Does you patient live next to a naval station, Adam?

He should mount it on the back of a pick-up truck. No more tailgaters!

@Eend Better still point it forward and it will be better than a police escort 😉

Well. from the housing it looks very naval. But could be a coast defence as well. Too Little Information to get it right. Sorry.

And if he wants to sell it.. My balcony has a view on the town hall AND the local tax office. "Hello mr tax-man, about that bill you sent me.. " 😉

Blimey, that's a lot of debate! The owner is a very interesting patient of mine who flew Seafires in Korea so will take more pics today and let you know if I find anything else.

Seems like an interesting guy... @Christian Meyerhoff: you could be right on both. Naval guns from old/cancelled and/or captured ships were often used in coastal defense positions.

Hi Mates, may you should take a look to my former post to this topic😉 It seems to be a naval gun, 12pdr (76mm) used on support vessels like ASW Trawlers and harbour defence vessels:

Some photos from the back should point that! Cheers, Christian

Well I went to see the patient today (he's feeling much better) and discovered it was from a land battery in Korea that was seized and then dumped when back in this country so he put on the back of a flat bed and bought home! More pics for those with an interest

Hi Adam, good to hear your patient feels better! He must be in the eighties!?
Thanx for sharing some more photos. Scale 1/35 diorama builders must jump because of them! Comparing your photos to the ones made by Mr. Yakubov the gun is really close to be a 12 pdr Mark V. May you will go back in a couple of days to look for him and by the way make a photo of the manufacturers plate on the left of the pivot. Maybe we can read it although it is still weathered.
By the way, an interesting history about your patient! Do you have had a chat with him about his service in Korea. I?m just curious because he must have flown with 800 Naval Air Squadron aboard HMS Triumph equipped with Seafire Mk. 47. One of the most powerful Spitfire / Seafire ever. I build an Airfix model in scale 1/48 of one of Triumph?s Seafires.

Thanx again, Cheer, Christian

@Adam...
I notice a name plate on the eeeerm!!! Gun/Cannon/Flak artillery whatever!!!
In the pic below you can see it level to the left of the Korean Spade handle.
Next time you visit this Gentleman, see if it has writing on it preferably in English. 😉
Not Korean😮

Yeah that's him, right at the end of the Seafire's life span, he then worked in 'inteligence' before becoming a civil pilot. I said I would pop in towards the end of the week to check up on him so will see if I can get a pic then.

Album info

So I go see a patient of mine and he calmly shows me this next to his garden shed. Apparently it "wasn't needed after the war". Any ideas what it is (apart from a gun obviously) and where it's from?
