The ancient but very accurate Frog kit with aftermarket decals. I had to mix most of my colours myself. No airbrush back then as well, all brush finishes.

Mottling was done with a short bristle stiff brush. I still have it!

These were aftermarket decals from Europe. A bit of register issue on some of them, but not too often.

The Monogram 110 kit with aftermarket decals! I was lucky back then to find them in a little hobby shop and the owner imported them from Italy, I think.

The old Revell Brewster Buffalo. The canopy slides and I cut the rudder and posed it a bit too.

A neat Revell feature for such a small scale in the early days. If you didn't glue the prop on, you could remove the cowling to show the engine! And the engine looked pretty good!

Frog's really old DH88 Comet model. Poor old girl lost a prop blade somewhere! No canopy masks back then. I had a special brush for the frames.

Revell's very nice Fokker Triplane kit. So tiny! I tried to replicate the late war Fokker factory green over blue camo finish, just using a description, no photos.

I had some of Humbrol's 'Authentic' WW1 German colours by the time I did this replica of Werner Voss' triplane. It was 1972.

I had almost perfected the wood prop laminations by now. I also painted the face on the cowling by hand.

This paint job was a real challenge for me. I never got the prop finished though! Maybe I'll do it now, 45 years later!

Airfix Gloster Gladiator. One of my first silver planes, using Humbrol enamel. Took weeks to dry!

An Airfix Harvard II. My first attempt to cut open a one piece canopy. Airfix canopies are way too thick for it to work! But I did cut the flaps out and pose them down.

Very early panel lines effort on the flight control surfaces. And I tried to mix my own zinc chromate green too! Got the navigation lights wrong. Left should be red!

I made my own tropical filter from balsa wood and converted a Frog Hurricane II to desert configuration. I think it was my first exhaust streaking too.

This is the tiny Revell Morane Saulnier "Bullett" kit. It was fully rigged but it's all gone. I might redo it sometime.

I used a Revell N17 to build this RFC Nieuport 27. Rounded the fuselage with thin balsa and scratch built the tail surfaces as well with thin wood.

I took the Lewis gun from another kit and mounted it on stretched sprue! The fuselage stringers are stretched sprue also.

I managed to get the tail colours reversed. The blue was in front on British planes during WW1 but I had no decals, so I hand painted the stripes.

Another Revell kit, their Nieuport 28 in US colours. I hand painted the cowling design. The tail decals came with the kit.

Great collection Norm! You are lucky to have these, and all with wheels and appendages attached 😄 I have nothing left from my early years, when I was 10-15. I would give, well... something valuable... to have those back.

Originally, I had saved more than 100 models, but now I have about 80 left, the ones in the pictures here are not broken, the 50 others suffered a bit more damage! Ill get the camera out today.
