Thanks guys - it's tiny little thing but it's been an easier build than I initially thought it would be.

Thanks - yes, been following Greg's builds, and Greg has been looking at my Tintin builds as well. Us Tintin fans have to stick together!

Oh, don't you fear... I check out Uwe's albums quite regularly to steal all the pro tips. I used his DHC Chipmunk build as a template for my inferior effort... DHC Chipmunk | Album by Uwe Kaeding (1:72) and I plan to do the same for his Polikarpov if my kit ever arrives from the land of Lost Packages and Mail. Polikarpov I-1 (modified) | Album by Uwe Kaeding (1:72)

I'm following this one too... since I didn't even know there was a Puss Moth kit available in 1/72. Myself, I'm on the lookout for a 1/72 Bellanca Pacemaker so I can build the famous yellow float plane from the Crab With The Golden Claws.

Thanks Greg - have fun with the Polikarpov. Its not a really hard conversion. BTW I got my Bellanca kit direct from Khee-Kha Art Products in Alaska: mtaonline.net/~zdk/. The guys was good to talk to (by e-mail) and he recommended the right types of floats as well.

Well finally got some finished photos done... and yes I know I put the exhausts in on the wrong side (I picked it up after painting and just didn't feel like redoing them. Maybe sometime I'll feel the urge...)

What a fantastic build, Uwe! I'm fighting the urge to drop everything and order a Puss Moth kit.

Don't fight it Greg, you know you want to... Honestly though, it does take a bit of work to modify the windows to look like the book and it took a lot to figure out how to attach the wings securely.

Well, luckily I have your WIP pics to study first. 😉 As always, you did a very nice and accurate job. I checked the book just make sure there really were THAT many windows. Of course, there were. Did you have to scratch build the entire interior?

Not really - the fuselage is one piece and did have to carve out a bit more because of the extra windows at the back. I also carved the floor area down a bit more and glued in a flat floor from plastic card. Otherwise it comes with 2 seats, which I used (just sitting on a bit of scrap plastic to make up for the deeper floor), a plain dash (to which I added some dials), rudder pedals and a fairly chunky stick. That's really all you need as despite all the windows its not easy to see anything in there!

I just got my kit in the mail today (I decided to order the "Japan" version - I figured the decals might come in handy later. So I'm studying your build again. I'm even more impressed now that I've seen the kit. Great work. I also decided to go another way with the "yellow float plane". The Bellanca seemed a bit more difficult than I wanted and after doing a bit of research and seeing someone else accomplish it, I decided to convert a 1/72 Revell Norseman instead. The windows are a bit off, but actually it looks almost as close to the fictional plane as the Bellanca does (and it came with it's own set of floats... and skiis and wheels.).

Oh. I also started a build of the Polikarpov I-L. I could never figure out why you build it and cut the nose off after... you must've just repurposed an already built kit, no? I want to solve that mystery!

Thanks Greg and John. Greg - for the Polikarpov i was originally going to build it out of the box and not worry about the differences, so I'd even got so far as painting it. Then I just couldn't bring myself to leave it like that and ended up chopping the nose off and making all the other changes... Looking forward to seeing how you go with it, and how the Norseman turns out.

I'm curious about the "body hollowed out" bit in pic 2. Do you remember how you accomplished that? There really isn't much room to get in there and the floor is rounded and arches up near the back.

Greg - can't really remember but I think it was probably roughly done with a Dremel and cutter bit and then smoothed by hand using chisels. I have used the Dragon chisels for ages and they work really well.

This is the Omega Models resin DH80 Puss Moth kit modified as the aircraft used by Tintin in the book Cigars of the Pharaoh. The main modification is to change the number and shapes of the windows.
