Bf 110E-3/Trop
Determining, where to cut and what to rescribe
Position of the camera realtive to cockpit floor
Filling in the chutes and vents, prepared for rescribing
Camera window cut out
cockpit floor peeking though - trimming required!
Dragon's seat-adjustment(?) grip vs. scratch-build
Completed handle and hollowed out housing
Rudder pedals thinned down
New book and parts: Aufklärer Vol.1 and RB50/30 camera from AIMS
Unused Dragon parts - might come in handy for the mounting frame
CAD sketch for the camera mounting frame
Camera model added for dimensional adaption
MG 15 with Master barrel
AIMS rear seat with scratch build support, handles on the front ammo drums added
Dust covers for the MG17s from brass tube
Instrument panel - only missing the Revi plug
Left cockpit side: Lots of detail missing, wing root will be visible
Right console: some small stuff missing, opening for cables in the wrong place
Almost complete cockpit
Instrument housings and cables added
Shot counter for the MG FF faired over
Valves added from stretched sprue and copper wire
HGW rudder pedals with Tamiya tape straps
Linkages added to opening in thorttle quadrant
Camera motor, with felxible shaft and pressure hose
Camera auxillary units: Bildfolgeregler and Ueberdeckungsregler - first try
Camera frame 3D printed via fused filament - fail!
Resin exhausts and some other stuff
Dry fit on the starboard cowling - quite some work to do
Wheel well finished
Landing gear, missing brake line
Comparison of drop tanks from stash
Engine instruments from Mdc
Dry fit of Quickboost exhausts
Prop dry fit, lots of sanding needed on the cowling
Motivational dry fit - both wings and ancelles are finally finished. Now everythings waiting for the camera mounting frame
IP with Revi plug and the IP lights added, comparison Dragon Revi vs. Quickboost
The assembled IP
Finally - the 3D printed camera frame!
Disaster strikes - even with careful sawing with the finest PE saw I had, the frame shattered
Lots of patience later it's almost reconstructed. One part of the arch is missing - have to crawl over the floor again
Repair with styrene - still needs some trimming
Mock up with the cockpit floor
The primer unforgivingly reveals all the flaws
Small collision problem
The height of the camera assembly seems accurate compared to oroginal pictures
Some paint on the frame and camera. Not ssure about the latter. I read about a blue-grey camer colour but there are only pictures from cameras in beige and dark grey
RLM02 over black base - tried to keep it irregular
Quick dry fit with the cockpit floor to get an impression
RLM66 for the IP, Bordfunkers gauges and the morse code box
Radio equipment and camera painted blue grey. Beige and brown for the rear seat
Started painting on the MG15. Still needs some graphite for the metal effect, but the bakelite rear end and the fabric cover are mostly done
Most of the detail painting done
The IP was pretty hard to paint - still not 100% satisfied
Dry fit
Placards (from MDC) added. The ones on the radio are 1/48
HGW seatbelts in place and dry fit of the cockpit
eduard seatbelts for the pilot's seat
seatbelts in place with the details higlighted by a brown wash
final touch: some pigments for dust and dirt on the cockpit floor
Minor fit issues on the belly section
The wings are finally on and dry fitting on the canopy is in progress
lots of masking on the canopy
canopy in place, RLM02 pn the insied; black base on the outside
Hasegawa drop tanks, with Dargon's brace and fuel pipes from copper wire
black base is on!
marble coat for the insignia
blending with off white
masked up
covered with Tamiya Nato black and black
first mask pulled - yes!
all masks in place and sealed
RLM78 marble in place
lower cowlings left blank - they were probably yellow
white marble base
yellow applied - still not happy with the result. Might try MRP yellow next time
Underside painted MRP RLM78
the crosses turned out a little bit too dark - they'll recieve another coat of white
contrast is a little too heavy fo rmy taste
contrast corrected, underwing codes applied
some weird lifting - never had an issue with MRP or Tamiya before..
RLM79 marble started
new marble technique
using a template over the base marble to get a more irregular pattern
RLM79 marble finished, added contrast with tan and brown
the effect is pretty subtle to invisible
RLM79 is on!
quite translucent - final look will be achieved after the RLM80 stripes
RLM70 for the prop, variation with Radu's mask in lighter and darker green; chipping via hairspray
finished props and spinner
black base for the RLM80 stripes
stripes in place!
some weird liftung on the insignia - have to fix that
Drop tank with decals from Revell's Bf 109G-6 - the flat carrier film is a pain in the **s
Quickboost exhausts painted with Alclads: steel base, followed by pale burnt metal and jet exhaust near the openings
pin wash applied to the RLM02 parts
salt faing - looking good from afar
paint ate through to the black base
repaired; needs some polishing
lots of dots
blended in; more dark oils applied to the exhaust stain area
oil dot filter in place
oils applied to the exhausts
started the exhaust stains with oils
filter on the upper sides
panel line wash in place
kept it subtle
underside wash in place
quick mock up
pigments applied to the wheels - meh
oversprayed with Tamiya buff; way better
started to redo the lost antenna mast, Vallejo sand as base coat
burnt umber streaked on
added chips with silver oil colour and exhaust stains with MRP
more chips
fuel and oil stains
more staining on the drop tanks
almost done!

Nice Paint job. 👍
Looking forward to see the Next pieces.
The engine instruments and the scratch also look great.

Thanks mates - I'm blushing behind my screen!
