Started on the cockpit. Kit includes tiny seperate rudder pedals, not sure they will even be visible.
Most of the pictures I have seen of Spitfires at rest, the elevators are always drooped down, so I seperated the elevators from the horizontal stabs and the rudder from the fuselage.
Cut off the cannons and need to putty the leading edge and fill the shell ejector shutes on the bottom the wing.

Finished the cockpit. The detail is pretty good straight out of the box. Added seatbelts of Tamiya tape.

Got the fuselage together, and attached to the wing. A lot of fiddling and some putty required. The mating surfaces of the rear fuselage/wing assembly are very thin and not a lot of gluing surface.

Comparing the painting guide vs. pictures of the real thing there are obvious differences. Looking at one of the pictures, all the aircraft have differences in the schemes...

Thanks for posting the reference pic of the free-form and/or generally applied camo pattern. Good progress on the Spitfire.

Thanks Erik, Serge and Stephan.
Got some green on the aircraft today. Its a mix of Humbrol 30 and 163. A lot of the forums I have read say Humbrol 30 Dark Green is too bright but 163 looks too dark to me.

Ready for decalling! I have an older boxing as well as the latest, and comparing the squadron codes, there is quite a difference. The newer decals definitely look way too green. Going to use the older boxing's squadron codes but the roundels from the newer release.

Found a picture of RB159 sporting a drop-tank
I have one in the stash somewhere. Definately going to add it!

Some of the decals shattered, so had to use spares and cobble together the Squadron codes on one side.
Just the canopy, propeller, and pitot tube to add. Have read online that the prop is wrong. It does look a little too fat (wide cord) to me. Going to sand that down a little.

The blades of the kit propeller do not look correct, so I am going to use a spare Airfix PR.XIX prop I have in the spares bin...
