Roland SachsenhoferThe top side paint is applied in several layers, with a dabbed-on covering lacquer being applied in between. Tomorrow I want to be able to apply the final coat of paint

Roland SachsenhoferCondition pictures of the surface design of an already weathered and stressed paint. I have worked again and again with dabbed-on covering varnish between the layers of paint. The last two pictures are the most unspectacular, but show the final state of my efforts. Unfortunately you can't see the now rather subtle weathering due to the strong clear varnish gloss - but tomorrow you can see the decals on it! 🙂

Roland SachsenhoferEleven pictures finish this gallery, the !Apache! is completed! That was quite an unusual building experience, nothing to compare with, let´s say, a Hasegawa Mustang: this Accurate Miniatures parts are very crisp and in most parts full of fine structures and details, while in other areas they are completely lacking. It´s funny to say, but that is not such an easy as one would assume. There is plenty of room and need for improvements and some parts have to be made entirely from scratch: for example all the kits gun barrels are completely useless- and the landing lights are completely missing and had to be improvised with various spare parts.
But that is not complaint: that is a pretty kit quite worth building!

By the way, there was a very nice development with this model last year: I was contacted by the grandson of the pilot of this A-36 "Dotsie", he wanted to show his son on the internet which aircraft his great-grandfather Donald Smith had flown- and came across my model. Now this model is in the USA in the home of the pilot's grandson - I have never been happier to part with a model!

Roland SachsenhoferWell, I agree, Robert. The exchange that took place with the family and in which I was privileged to learn a few anecdotes about the grandfather make it quite clear: this was not only a "pilot", this was above all..... a human being!
