Painting the inside of the cockpit and some parts of the nose wheel.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/8/8/9/808889-39399-76-720.jpg)
Chuck came dismembered so I had to put him together 😉
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/8/9/0/808890-39399-71-720.jpg)
Glueing the wings.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/8/9/2/808892-39399-57-720.jpg)
Part of the cockpit, wheels and engine. The tyres on the main wheels of the original plane have diagonal grooves, but I didn't dare to have a go at it to not ruin the wheels.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/8/9/3/808893-39399-52-720.jpg)
Two side probes and central pitot head.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/8/9/4/808894-39399-98-720.jpg)
Painting of the control yoke.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/8/9/6/808896-39399-84-720.jpg)
Chuck in his seat.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/8/9/7/808897-39399-14-720.jpg)
Reaction motors rocket engine.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/8/9/9/808899-39399-46-720.jpg)
Notice the serious gap between fuselage and exhaust. Also the exhaust nozzles should be conical towards the inside. The small exhaust pipe on the lower left is missing.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/9/0/1/808901-39399-56-720.jpg)
So I added one from a scratch piece.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/9/0/0/808900-39399-14-720.jpg)
Luckily there is a decal for the instrument panel.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/9/0/3/808903-39399-60-720.jpg)
Some putty on the wing edges as they didn't close nicely after glueing.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/9/0/2/808902-39399-47-720.jpg)
This kit is a "tail sitter" and a little transparant support post is provided. But I didn't want to use it because it looks silly. Alternatively you can put a 20g weight. (why can't manufacturers make this proper or provide the weight themselves ?).
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/9/0/5/808905-39399-84-720.jpg)
Fixed the lead weight with a hot glue gun.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/9/0/7/808907-39399-65-720.jpg)
Because the rear of the instrument panel is visible through the canopy I decided to add the wiring that connects to the gauges.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/9/0/8/808908-39399-24-720.jpg)
Dry fitting the cockpit area.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/9/0/9/808909-39399-37-720.jpg)
Assembly of the main fuselage.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/9/1/0/808910-39399-31-720.jpg)
Ready for the wings and tailplanes.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/9/1/1/808911-39399-40-720.jpg)
Balancing act.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/9/1/2/808912-39399-63-720.jpg)
Still some more sanding to do ...
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/9/1/3/808913-39399-88-720.jpg)
Primer coat.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/9/1/4/808914-39399-44-720.jpg)
First colour coating. I used only the Tamiya X-6 but this was too yellowish.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/9/1/5/808915-39399-84-720.jpg)
I bought clear red X-27 and gave it a 1:8 mixture spray. Much better now !
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/9/1/7/808917-39399-86-720.jpg)
Masking of the canopy.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/9/2/0/808920-39399-71-720.jpg)
Clear gloss coat before decalling.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/9/2/1/808921-39399-89-720.jpg)
Decals on. Remark : in the decal instructions the old USAF logo is placed on the upper side of the right wing. This should be on the top of the left wing (box art and prototype model show correct location). Also the "2" of registration number 6062 should have a split of the upper curvature.
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/9/2/2/808922-39399-70-720.jpg)
Still some minor additions (probes) and final coat to protect the decals.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/6/2/2/811622-39399-28-720.jpg)
Final product.
