I have started a "triple build" of Eduards excellent Bf 108; these camo schemes are just too inviting to build only one! The one you see here is quite a bit different: it will be shown in flight- therefore my humble beginning in painting figures- and with a special "commemorative scheme": my brother will celebrate his 60th birthday and this will be part of my present to him.

Nice project and sentiment ! 🙂
I'm sure he will appreciate receiving one of your excellent works 🙂
I see what you mean about the variety of camo schemes, tempted to get three for the same reason 😄
Nice kit though, I like the way the instrument panel is molded with holes for where the dials go so you can put the decals behind onto a thin bit of clear and paint separately etc.
I wish that was standard practice across all kits 🙂

I am late to say that, but: thank you mates!
It is a quite well designed and rather fast to build kit- I am loving it by now!
Parts layout om its 1:32 counterpart look very very the same with going in some detail with etched parts
I am eager to start with that also.

I´ll gladly join in here - the Bf-108 is my favorite Messerschmitt, and a really cool plane for the period. I´m sure you´ll handle it all with flying colors, just hope there are not only military paint-jobs in the trio!

Roland, you may find this of interest, Kermit Weeks is restoring a full size Bf 108 and has a youtube series outlining how the are going about it to bring it back to flight worthy condition. The series has some great insights into the construction and design of the Bf108 🙂

Thanks Slavo and Choppa! I can tell you that, as it looks, there will be no military camouflage dress in the narrow sense of the word! The copy of my brother will be NMF over everything, the following two 48er machines show a nice RLM blue, whereby with one machine a part of the fuselage is held in grey in such a way that a snake form in blue remains. The Bf 108 in 1:32 I plan to finish, sticking to a livery from a plane flown in France in the summer of 40´, in RLM 02 over all.
Thanks for the welcome video-link; I will watch the explanations with pleasure!

You may have to search their channel to find the first video in the series but I have found it an interesting project to follow as they are almost rebuilding it, most of it anyway 🙂

Thank you Nathan and Choppa! The schedule is set, the model must be mounted on his pylon for the birthday party on August 8.If nothing unforeseen happens, this will probably turn out 🙂
I must confess, I didn't know FoF until now, thanks for this tip!

Yeah he has loads of great videos with walk arounds of all kinds of restoration projects from the golden ages of flying ie. pre 1950's 🙂

Very informative, Choppa!
Following pictures show the first Bf 108 of the quartet. The surfaces of the NMF appearance are now laid out, with slight shades of different Alclad shades to bring some life into the look. The four white circles, sprayed by means of stencils, will show the number "60"; yes, that's how old my brother is getting 🙂

The birthday party can start, everything is ready!
The first Bf 108 of the quartet has now left the work table.
I hope you enjoy the "flight shots", a gimmick with a photo editing program, as much as I did 🙂

Roland that´s looking seriously great, love the post-produced pictures 👍 And a well done finish too - no spectacular surface show-off, and the right amount of depth and lining let the eye glide along the revolutionary 108 shape and the model to appear really life-like, good job!
Did you blur the propeller in a software or used a translucent piece simulating a spinning prop? In any case, the effect looks really good on those pics

Slavo, a feedback like this from a modeller like you makes me especially happy - but also the vivid imagery of your language makes me happy, if I may say so!
For the approach to the sight of a moving propeller, I used very thin clear film, which was carefully airbrushed. I would like to show you three pictures of samples taken from different angles, which prove how beautiful they look in front of a suitable background - and the blue of my photo board is one such - the contours of the clear film dissolve. It is important not to leave any "edges" at the edges of the foils.
No, no photo post-processing, as I may say proudly and in any case delighted! 🙂

Thanks a lot! Oh, I must have said it wrong; one of the three Taifuns is a present for my brother, the other two show correct - but also quite exciting - Luftwaffe markings. Yes, and then there's a Taifun in 1:32, so it is a quartet to be honest. 🙂

I really like the 'blurred' prop effect, Roland! Thanks for showing how you did it. The Taifun looks great, a nice clean build.

According to the number on the wing this bird changed the ownership yesterday. What was the reaction of the new owner?

Thanks a lot to both of you!
The nice thing was that my brother had no idea about the model gift and so was able to be surprised bit by bit: first the presentation of a picture of the "flying" Taifun with his data on the fuselage- and then the unveiling of the model original on its display.
The third part, so to speak, was then a few days after the birthday party the transmission of the links leading to the modelling articles of his Taifun.
I think I succeeded in giving him a real pleasure - and that is, besides enjoying this special model building project, the most beautiful delight.

Taifun numbers two and three are getting both a striking blue underlining the aesthetically pleasing lines of the Bf 108; one with the well known red and white tail, the other with a quite strange snake on the fuselage sides..... Well, you will see! 🙂

We will see- but I also think that the blue is no problem. It's more like the cockpit frame in natural metal, which has to fit really precisely to look good.

Making blue: a few pictures of the two now really high-gloss Bf 108's. The effect of the colouring will probably only be seen when I do a final shading of the gloss tomorrow and a subtle washing is applied to the surfaces.

Hereby I may announce the roll out of Taifun number 2 and 3. Although these kits are good, they show their age in casting and moulding. Nevertheless the construction is fun! The only thing I have to advise to be careful with is the tricky fitting and the NMF colouring of the canopy. By the way, the Bf 108 with the achabloniert snake at the fuselage was flown at the time of the "Phoney War" in spring 1940 in France, the machine still completely in dark blue dates from 1937 and was flown at the "Oasis Race" in Egypt.
Thank you for your interest and comments!

2 more across the line - the blue does fit the machine well - the in-flight grace with gear up & prop spinning is hard to top, but I like how you try to work out small differences (apart from the obvious ones like the snake - well done there!) like the propeller paint-jobs & co... Nice job indeed! 👍
