Switching from Defender of the Fleet to Defender of the Reich.
Bought this kit just for fun as it was cheap and I heard its good. And its my favourite WWII fighter. And I esp. like the "Wilde Sau" logo. But since I have basically no clue of the whole thing this wont be too accurate, I gathered a few pics but expect some artistic freedom😉
First step was the cockpit - quite empty compared to what I normaly deal with but with a bit of weathering will look quite intersting I hope. Used cut out decal parts for the steam gauges which worked flawlessly with tamiya mark fit strong. Next up oils.

I've some 1/32 WWII, planes on my stash, so I'm here on the front seat to learn 🙂

Haha, I would strongly disapprove, If I did not have a 32-scale Revell prop plane in my stash for a planned future project myself... 😄
There definitely are nice Revell kits around in this scale (My P-51D surely is, by the look at the ), hope this is one of them - and provides an enjoyable distraction from "usual suspects"...😉

Oh slavo, we should start a group build!!! 😄 Just kidding...
We call it "Jet builders confused&lost"
I have heard the same good things about their mustang, and I was tempted...but the innate fear of nmf's kicked in. And I can throw all kinds of weathering stuff on this butcher bird which I think I will enjoy . So far the dry fit leaves me in a very positive mood for this build as well 👍
@rui: allright, ok, but Im gonna treat this like a tank😉

Let me see...2024...hmmm...negative, according to my calculations I've run out of space until then and switched to 1:144 biplanes only😉
Finished the cockpit tub with some wear and tear and also experimented with the kits straps decals. With some masking tape as spacer underneath and some artificial shadow they blend in quite nicely i think

Spent the last days sweating, melting, dehydrating and cursing at wires and stuff - dont know why, but I started plumbing and wiring on this one, must be because I absolutely love this kits engine parts and just needed to add some beauty. Not done yet but mostly.

Ah, things are moving on here - a lovely scale-copy of the best-sounding WW2 engines - everybody says Merlin, but I have a soft spot for the FW-190 signature sound. Some nice enhancements too 👍 - all just for some fun under the cowling, or are you going for an open one?

Clifford, Rui, Slavo and Alan - many thanks mates!
@Clifford: Cool, join in: I got a groupbuild with slavo going - it ends 2024 😄😉
@ Rui: yeah, phew...they should definately note that in the instructions
@slavo: Yes and No...My plan is: magnets! (Oh here we go again^^) From my first dry fit it looks like its possible

ah, yes and I am with you on bmw 801>merlin sound. Best sounding engine of world war II for me is the corsair though, enhanced by whistling

Some progress made between updates, it's fun to paint these luftwaffe camos
@Clifford: 👍 Go for it, its a quite relaxing build (if I exclude all the unnecesary pipes and wires)

Good to see the engine is not sentenced to solitary confinement in eternal darkness! 🙂 Especially the splendid rusty exhaust deserve an open display 👍
The fishing line solution looks smart & I also quite like the oil-speckled inside of the cowling - end of story there, or just a warm-up in this department?😉

@ clifford: Ah, then this will be very good to calm the nerves afterwards 🙂
@slavo: yep, would be a shame to hide the part that consumed most of the build time 🙂 so far that's it for the engine I guess unless you have cool ideas?
Will maybe add some fresh oil to parts with glossy varnish, also some fake screws to the black caps maybe - but first I'll concentrate on the exterior now

Daniel I did not mean the engine itself, that just looks splendid resting in place - the question was about inside of the open cowling panel - I found the black speckling got my attention, something I would not consider making it on the outside of an aircraft, which is my usual zone of attention... 🙂
I was wondering if the posable panel is done (which it is perfectly entitled to be AS-IS), or if you plan to authorize further action there. If you do, I´d imagine some thermal/soot, even corrosion/paint-burn (?) based effect where it almost touches the exhausts when closed could be interesting... I IMAGINE that, not claiming to talk out of experience/actual historical knowledge 😄

Roland, Clifford, Neuling and Slavo - thanks a lot guys!
@Roland: Absolutely, a putty-free, tear-free and sweat-free Kit. No blood as well so far.
@Slavo: Great idea, didnt really think of this! since this build is not aiming for historical or technical accuracy but just for fun and the looks I will definetely google "burned paint" in a few minutes and develop a plan 🙂
other than that I am currently decaling, nothing interesting to report, revells decals work well as expected 🙂

James and Clifford, thanks! glad you like her
I put some first wear and tear on it now, experimented with water colors a bit which was new territorry and theres room for improvement. Hope I can find some time over the weekend to do some more, fuel stains, mud flying around and better exhaust smoke stains are on the menu

The Boar has been in some melee! 🙂 👍
Very nice weathering, particularly the "acid" effects on the wings! - makes the surface really believable. Don't know how you make these, no ideas apart from "simulated thinner accident" 😄 Good going!

Thx Spanjaard, Slavo, Clifford and Lyndon!
I gave her the whole oil treatment now, meaning dead insects (mainly rhino beetles) on the hood, exhaust stains, fuel leaks, some streaks and a thin dust film all over. Also broke a wheel while doing so...dang it! Tomorrow mud on the underside+wheels and reconstruction
The "acid effect" developed from my first steps with water color and is no magic at all and needs no aggressive thinner: I take white thinned watercolor on a brush and make a little puddle, when it dries: Voila, a white outline appears, same as lime stains on the sink really. Then I darkened the outline with a pencil for 3Deffect- done. Dont think these ever appeared on the real thing but I like the look of it🙂

Its only a bit of wet clay! I swear!^^
Mud is a first for me as well, I am sure there are more elegant methods utilizing certain spanish weathering products but the trusty oils in thick dabbing are looking good enough for me as well. Now Im letting this dry for some time before I go into final assembly. Mean while I am doing a little jump in the timeline and took my F-35 out of its dusty box. Have to change my mindset now, no poo poo on this one 🙂

Nearly finished now, was able to position the yellow doors with a tiny magnet so they can still swing open. Hope to take some rollout pics this weekend, stay tuned 🙂
