Great looking boomer, the open SS-N-20 tubes look very nicely detailed & you got the rubber coating surface finish really realistic 👍

Wow - impressive work! Concerning modern submarines a Typhoon is very detailed but you managed bring even more life out of the rather "simple" kit.

Thank you all! Just woke up. LoL. This is my first submarine kit project, ever! I really enjoyed working on it. There were many photo references. The hardest challenge was painting and the nuances of the weathering effects of the black surface.

Thanks. There were a few mods that I did on the model. Notably, vigorously sanding down the rubber surface blocks, as the ones from the kit were too boxy; rescribing all the panel lines to match the top and bottom hull; masked and paint all the horizontal white waterline marks; add internal flooring in the ballistic missile hatch.

Thx a lot for these. For when I get around on this one. What are the kind of nets you use on the pics showing the painting of the bottom hull?

Hi @Bart - That is the ArtoolFX mini by Gerald Mendez. It is an airbrush template to help people make organic, fluid and random paint effects. They come in a set of 3 and are made of coated cardboard. I have been using this tool ever since to create randomized weathering effects.

The paint work on each tile is stunning, and the wheathering effects... wow 👀

Thanks, mates! @Sylvain i made several masking templates using photo-copy paper with random holes the size of the tiles. Then I just spray different shades over them

I can only agree. Very convincing and realistic finish. Quite an achievement with such a big monochrome area.

Thank you @Villiers de Vos and @Guy Rump. Yes @Michael Kohl, the hardest part was how to make the boring monochrome area into something interesting.

Looks really nice compared to the old Mikro-Mir kit, which has the launcher tubes hidden with closed panels. The tiling also looks very interesting.
I guess I am surprised by how nicely the launcher tube doors look, not knowing how accurate the detailing is.
Edit: Oh, wait, the Mikro-Mir kit also came out in 2014 apparently.

How are the tiles with their panel lines still visible after you added putty over it?

I have somehow missed this before, very nice details and beautiful painting and weathering!
Does the option for the open tubes come with the kit, or have you added that by yourself?

A video 100% to my liking. Condensed no-nonsense information straight to the point. Well done - like your boat.

Hi @Treehugger - Good to know about the Mikro-Mir! one the panels: I think because the liquid putty (surfacer) shrinks when it dries and they get lost a lot during the sanding process. that's how the panels are still visible after all that putty and sanding.

HI @Jan Peters - yes, the kit provided the tube hatches as separate parts. I think it was easier to install the hatches in an open position rather than trying to close the hatches and keep them aligned nicely. LOL.

Simply stunning build! The video was a great summary and I can see where your armor skills like filtering added an extra dimension to the Typhoon. You made Captain Ramius proud!

In 1/350 scale, this submarine kit measures almost 50 cm. This is supposed to be a simple build. However, as usual, Hobby Boss will not give you a break. For example, the top half of the hull is slightly longer than the bottom part. the kit has a workable forward hydroplane but I glued it open because the mechanism was poorly designed. I had the liberty of making this video clip on how I addressed the issues: Youtube Video . Which also include ballistic missiles tubing that did not have any flooring so I had to build it with styrene plate. Taking images of the Typhoon was really challenging because there was little variety or point of interest that I could show.
