It's a centrifugal extractor fan I got from eBay at around €70 shipped to Spain.

If you want to test it you can light an incense stick and see how well the smoke goes into the box. Opening a window somewhere should help with the extraction as well I think, but might have dust coming into the box from other areas of your apartment, unsure.

Yes. That's how I first tested when I built it and that's when it really surprised me. After burning a whole stick in front of it fot 10-15 minutes, you couldn't smell a thing

Of couse, dust is always an issue. However, a new matt made of kitchen paper everytime you spray improves dust-less results
