Ark Royal build
Some quite nice if very basic detail in the molding.
Lot of cleaning off needed.
See what i mean?
Making a start on the aircraft. Very difficult at this scale but the basic shapes are good. No undercarriage or props supplied so will need to make these up, probably from stretched sprue. The little folded up Fulmar is quite nice. Unusual mechanism.
I know, looks a bit crap, but its all a matter of scale. Gets interesting when you try to paint the decals!! Or rig the bi-planes. Why, oh, why......
Adding some scratch build from stretched sprue. The wheels are probably a bit over size but i can live with it.
And there we have it. 1/600 Kingfisher. This is very fiddly. Got to admire Franks build. He has added even more detail but i am quite happy with this as a starting point. Might try some Ezyline rigging later on.
As you can see they are tiny!! Only five more to build. And six Fulmars. Not bad for a pretty basic kit.
Nearly finished the swordfish. Rather crude but for the scale acceptable.
That deck looks mighty slim to me!

I did some 1:520 biplanes, I found it kind of fun, but would not recommend rigging 🙂 I like your kingfisher a lot.

Thanks Ben. Yes its alright really. Very little detail in these but adding a little scratch build helps a lot. Painting is very tricky but just about possible. Been learning from the master Frank;

Love your stuff Frank.

Took awhile but quite pleased with her. Be warned though, every thing is covered in a deep layer of flash on this 'vintage' kit. You can get most of it off but it doubles the build time!

Nice job Mike, I have built many of the Airfix Trackside series locos and rolling stock from the early red stripe boxings where the sprues were flash free and parts sharp as a knife (and better plastic). I have this to build from the new VC range so am now prepared by your comments. I also have Victorious to build from a 1980s boxing so that should be Ok but also have just bough Fearless and Devonshire in the new VC range so fingers crossed they are OK. I have also gone the full hog and bought the PE detail sets for the last three, bonkers I know but there's a first time for everything! Thanks for the Frank Spahr AR link - that will be very useful Cheers

Not really a boat builder, but i do love aircraft carriers. This is my first go and at 1/600 i am not expecting too much. The Airfix vintage classics are not easy mainly due to the problem of flash spillage. Everything is just covered so a LOT of cleaning up is needed. If you want to see how good at can look then check out Frank Spahr's excellent build. Inspiring indeed.

Its also a good opportunity to check out my new phone which has a macro lens. These new phones are getting so good. Might ditch the SLR yet.
