SU-18 Prototype

Album image #1
Drilled out front axle, including item parts nr 7, and added a brass rod to reinforce the construction.

Album image #2
Drilled out the front idler wheel axles, to be replaced by brass rods.

Album image #3
Back plate/ engine cover topside sticking out too much, so I bent it into the round shape after gluing it in place.

Album image #4
Small update, grab handles and towing shackle

Album image #5
Album image #6
Banding the trenchplate to conform the supports... not an easy task here

Album image #7
Added the missing air intake top grill and a worktool + mounting

Album image #9
Album image #10
Filled hole at the back end; added ring on side (feul?) storage bin; added a grab handle on top of the bin.

Album image #11
Album image #12
Pinned front wheel idlers.

Album image #13
Extended back plate PE with a piece of the PE sprue (?). Seem needs filling.

Album image #14
Added missing front wheel idler supports.

Album image #15
Added small cover plate on top right, presumably for sighting equipment.

Album image #16
Finally found a working solution:
- made a piece of photo-etch (out of sprue leftover) 2.5mm * 12mm
- bend it double lengthwise
- drilled holes with correct spacing for wheels
- drilled attachment hole
- drilled main piston connector to the bar
- filed photo-etch bar to length as required

This resin is really brittle!

Album image #17
A completed assembly next to an ongoing.

As I was dry fitting the pieces, I noticed that spacers are needed to simulate the width between the small wheels.

Album image #18
Dry fitting the smaller wheel support.

Album image #19
Ongoing assembly of the smaller wheel supports.

Middle axle is still loose, so the support can pivot freely at the moment. That will allow it to level out the wheels once the main support is glued onto the chassis.

Small update, comments are on the pictures. I had to switch to my DSLR with macro lens, my cellphone could no longer photograph the tiny pieces... (also the focus depth is horrendous on a phone)

Hi all, Small update, see pictures.
To do:
- the missing front fender supports (incl headlight and sound device)
- figuring out where the return rollers need to be placed. (no guiding holes)
- reinforcing the wheel supports. They are so fragile I would like to replace them with PE and brass rods. I'll probably rebuild that assembly entirely.

With it being an interesting overall topic, I really enjoy seeing a MS-1 in model form! Nice progress so far, I´m following this one 👍 Especially the running gear looks to be a really intricate affair...
