Devastation at Midway
4 flare markers scratched. Also still unattached for painting.
Guns are still unattached. Twin .30s especially installed for the upcoming Battle of Midway.
The floor plates as described in the book.
A lot of things to the sidewalls. Not nearly there yet.
Bomb bay, some interior.
Wheelbay. Eduard with a bit extra to make it look a little more real.
Bronze green
A loose scratched pitot tube with outside air thermometer. The three loose probes still to be made.
Rather wide aircraft
That mount is way too big. Which will not fit with the canopy entirely closed.
Sctatchbuild twin .30 mount
Much better size
Some detailing on IP coaming.
And I just found out that the loose canopy parts are differently sized regarding windshield and all other panels. In no way can one open the canopies realistically. I initially planned to use vacform as well for the inner panels but whatever I do or think of, it can’t be done realistically.

Sprayed on markings etc. Using my cutting plotter. Could be better, but happy regarding the nature of the ribbing on the wings.
The red and white rudder and red dots on the insignia were removed as per directive just a couple of weeks before the battle of Midway. According color images of VT-8 just before the battle, the rudder was repainted in some other Blue Gray.
Exhaust fumes and engine
Loving it!
That moment! ?
Aaaahhhh
The pitot scratched from aluminium tube, plastic and 0,1mm nickel wire
The nose art by Gay & Huntington
The last picture taken of Robert Huntington (L) and George Gay (R) before the Battle of Midway, 4 June 1942.

Checkin' in ! What is the reason for the scratchbuilt forward and lower bombardier's compartment floor, lost parts ?

I was wondering whether or not you were checked in already Hanno! 😉
The pictures I have show a different kind of floor than GWH has and I tried to replicate that.
The pilots side panels don't have the sides underneath so I cut that away as well and then the forward part of the floor was no longer connected or very straight.
What does you references say about the interior colors of especially the second batch of Devastator?

You're right Sid, I'm late.....😄 I was'nt aware that the floorlayout was altered in later batches.
As far as the interior clour is concerned, I'm pretty sure it was interior green, as even the early references ( at least mine) seem to show that early serial production TBDs were painted like that internally. If you look at the first picture in album:
1939 Yellowwing TBD Devastator, BuNo 0318, USS Enterprise CV6 | Album by Aquilifer (1:48)
As all these birds were crouflaged after December 7th 1941, I'm sure the internal colour remained as it was.

I've put some additional interior pictures in my TBD album 1939 Yellowwing TBD Devastator, BuNo 0318, USS Enterprise CV6 | Album by Aquilifer (1:48)
From picture #61 on, the interior green is quite visible

The original TBD's were in NMF finish inside I believe, but the pilots soon found out that was not very handy with the sun and all. I remember reading late thirties they field experimented with (bronze) green and black interiors. Somewhere at the end of the colorful time they transitioned to (interior) green.

Nice pics btw! I think they are of the very early prototypes. Some slight layout changes in equipment and the old interior for the bomb aim doors. But the interior color is not as NMF as the pictures I have in my book. Forgot the title and I am not home currently. Could be lightish green..

Thank you Hanno! I made three stupid mistakes but they are hardly visible. Lucky me! Difficult kit but what a story of these aircraft!

Hi Kim, I used Mr.Paint 133 M485 Blue Grey and 134 M495 Light Grey. The rudder has been oversprayed with Gunze 42 Blue Grey.
Thanks guys!
