MetalEarth Notre Dame de Paris
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/1/4/1/1258141-11453-20-720.jpg)
Missed photo'ing progress on the first sheet of instructions - not anticipating any problems - sorry about that!
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/1/4/2/1258142-11453-52-720.jpg)
putting the roof on really stabilized the construction.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/1/4/3/1258143-11453-96-720.jpg)
didn't like the way in which the flying buttresses fitted!
Not only are they a little angled,.....
Not only are they a little angled,.....
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/1/4/4/1258144-11453-38-720.jpg)
This shot really shows that angle
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/1/4/8/1258148-11453-26-720.jpg)
here too
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/1/8/5/1258185-11453-12-pristine.jpg)
Just to prove I wasn't building badly - I checked the Fascinations website - same angled buttress too!!!
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/1/8/4/1258184-11453-85-pristine.jpg)
and the "flying" buttress doesn't meet here either!!!
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/1/4/5/1258145-11453-58-720.jpg)
Having confirmed my suspicions, I can safely say:
The problem with these parts, is that the lower of the two "flying" projections is too long, by about 1.5mm, which means that the upper of the two doesn't meet the building (it's supposed to be supporting!)!!

![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/1/4/6/1258146-11453-58-720.jpg)
So I removed all of part #26' that I had installed, and chopped 1.5mm off the lower "flying" part
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/1/4/7/1258147-11453-61-720.jpg)
And now it touches where it should, and stands vertical
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/1/4/9/1258149-11453-38-720.jpg)
That's much better - Hope that's all!
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/1/8/6/1258186-11453-68-pristine.jpg)
From Fascinations website - All these buttresses, with "flyers" to the cathedral wall, look a little angled here too
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/1/8/7/1258187-11453-11-pristine.jpg)
and the same on the other side.....hm
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/2/9/0/1259290-11453-73-720.jpg)
Added all of the smaller flying buttresses - no size problems with these
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/2/9/1/1259291-11453-58-720.jpg)
The vertical view help to ensure that they're lined up OK.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/2/9/2/1259292-11453-15-720.jpg)
All vertical too
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/2/9/3/1259293-11453-89-720.jpg)
It's important to make sure that the buttress parts are bent at 90 degrees, or the "flying" arm will point at the wrong angle.
I used a steel ruler, ensuring that the "end" of the buttress is held firmly against the edge of the ruler, then bend each side to the face & back of the ruler - makes manufacturing of these parts easy.

![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/2/9/4/1259294-11453-87-720.jpg)
All of the side buttresses fitted - check the measurement of each one before you secure it in place.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/2/9/5/1259295-11453-19-720.jpg)
And check that the "flying" arm points correctly.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/1/7/2/1260172-11453-42-720.jpg)
All the flying buttresses added OK - no modifications required
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/1/7/3/1260173-11453-20-720.jpg)
This side OK too
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/1/7/4/1260174-11453-82-720.jpg)
Vertical check to show they all point where they should
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/1/7/5/1260175-11453-51-720.jpg)
starting on the tower end of the cathedral.
I used my favoured "secret tab and eye" method when assembling these 4-walled constructions - makes it a little tricky to handle until you can start locking the "inside" tabs - but a much neater result.

starting on the spire, using the "secret tab and eye" method - so both the tab & the eye are bent inside to 90 degrees
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/1/8/0/1260180-11453-68-720.jpg)
The secret joins completed - probably photographed too close as all this shot does is highlight where the part was cut from the frame.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/1/7/9/1260179-11453-86-720.jpg)
close up view of the inside joins
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/1/8/1/1260181-11453-34-720.jpg)
Now all the tower parts are ready to assemble.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/1/8/2/1260182-11453-97-720.jpg)
Voila! - tower assembled - outer view

Tower is attached to the rest of the building with only 2 tabs, then comes the tricky part of getting all 13 tabs into the receiving slots in the base.
No in progress shots of me twisting and writhing in my chair, complete with facial twisting no doubt, to get this complete.

![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/1/9/0/1260190-11453-43-720.jpg)
and high up in the roof, TWO tabs secure the steeple in place...... Fine pliers needed here!
C'est Magnifique!!

MetalEarth Lasercut kit of Notre Dame cathedral
Started this after Expo22 to complete the Paris trio of
* Eiffel Tower
* Arch de Triumphe
- Notre Dame
###Noticed error in parts for the "flying buttresses" so though I'd better document that!!
As Chris from M&H4U suggested, this one has a fire-proof roof!!
