Fw190D-11
Other mod to be done is the modification of the nose bulkhead because the D-11 was not equipped with the cowling MG131 and so the ammunition carriers must be cancelled. I chose to create a new bulkhead with plasticard instead of doing surgery on the kit part.
That's the famous Fw190D-9 kit from Hasegawa. I'll use the Montex conversion to turn it into a D-11. I'll use also a number of aftermarkets to upgrade the kit.
Removing the compressor air intake leaves a big ugly hole in right forward fuselage. Fortunately most of this will be hidden by the new larger scoop.
The Montex resin top cowling. The fit is not perfect and it is short from 2mm at the canopy side. I'll try to fill the inside of the kit cowling with putty and to reshape it to resolve the fitting issues. It should not be too difficult to reshape the cowling... well, I hope...

Eduard instrument panel and cover. I added a vinyl pipe to the cover to create the leather boot as on the real part
Eduard cockpit PE asks for the instrument panel cover to be cut off.
One of the modifications to be done to the kit is the removal of the D-9 compressor air intake, to be replaced by the resin part. D-11 compressor intake was oval, pretty much like the TA152 type.
The kit flaps need attention and a lot of putty due to numerous sinks.
And so the wings....
Conversion into D-11 requires the replacement of the kit underwing panels with resin parts to replicate the Mk108 canons installation. It's necessary to cut off a small area of the wing for the spent cartridges chutes.
Still for D-11 conversion, it's necessary to open the gun ports in the wing leading edge.
Cut-off done. First fit test,overall good, only thing is to shim the panel to get it flush with the wing.

Cut-off for the Mk108 gun barrel. A bit tricky because the hole is not centered on the leading edge, but lower.
Montex kit part is good but I preferred to use a Quickboost part leftover from my previous Fw190F-8.
In red the areas that are above the wing skin, so they must be thinned inside the panel.
Construction of the ejection shell port. I used some chutes coming from a Me 262.
Ready for glue!
Final result. I'm quite happy with it. Now it's putty time!

Alan GHow is the quality of the Montex conversion? I am looking at either trying to find the Montex one (if they still make it) or get the Real Model one.

ErikMontex conversion is not bad but the resin quality is not up to actual Eduard standards in terms of surface finishing, but nothing that can't be dealt with surfacer and patience. One thing is that Montex doesn't provide any instructions for the resin, so you must be familiar with this kind of work, and you must document yourself on the D-11 to understand where some parts are going. The compressor intake gave me work especially for reshaping the scoop itself. Montex provides an overall good part for this but in my opinion it is not oval enough out of the box. So I trim it a lot inside and flattened it outside to reach this peculiar oval shape (like D-13s and TA152s). The next part that could have been better is the top cowling, too short to fit and a bit poor in terms of finishing.

ErikHi Alan, the build is in standby because I can't find picture that are clear enough showing the bulges on the engine cowling, specially on the right side where it meets with the compressor intake. In the meantime I finished a Nakajima Ki-44, started a Bf110 and proceeded with a Kaman HOK-1. Thanks for your message Alan. Take care.
