Fantastic visual effects that you've achieved with the paintwork 👍
I had a go at building some WW2 subs last year for similar reasons as yourself. Thoroughly enjoyed the painting and weathering process as well.

Beautiful job! I really like that you added the crew; helps to provide a perspective on how large this boat really is.

When I told another model builder that I was working on a submarine, he joked that “submarines are the laziest kind of modelling.” He is right, most have few parts and can go together in one afternoon. Needed something simple to take a break from major projects. However, they make great canvases to practice weathering and color modulation skills and break up their monotonous color scheme. I especially liked the visuals of the 1:350 HobbyBoss Virginia. Here's mine, I used a lacquer primer and acrylic paints, then oils, to create as interesting and natural a surface as I could raise. I also added a 1:350 crew, they're tiny, but I used magnifying glasses and they turned out ok. I ordered them from www.blackcatmodels.eu
