Wayne's first factory ride
Wayne Gardner's '84 Swann Series Honda

In 1984 Honda had taken notice of an Australian winning on a private Honda in England. He had done so well they decided to test just how much was Wayne and how much was the bike. So they entered him in the Swann Series in Australia against Briton Rob McElnea on a factory Suzuki and two Japanese Moriwaki Honda entries. Wayne won the series and was rewarded a factory ride in the World Championships. He won the World Championship for Honda in 1987.
