Almost all of the new battleset's buildings are cardboard. Unfortunately

Elsewhere is says the building is MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) rather than cardboard.

You are right. It's MDF. All the battleset buildings come from sarissa productions:
sarissa-precision.com/
John and me are probably just disappointed that's not plastic.
Some buildings in their battlesdts are made of plastic nonetheless: e.g. the ruins in the "Battle of Bastogne" - set.
