Probably, yeah 🙂 It's a metalworking lathe, so a bit overkill for just turning down the seam on those wheels, but I didn't feel like aching fingers from scraping them down with a knife — I get those even when I hold them in a modelling vice, never mind just between my fingers.

> that kind of set up can tool a real bogie!!

Having seen a disassembled Sherman bogie up close, I must say I think this one is a size too small for that 😉

With these pictures I am starting a project that I am deliberately building parallel to the Boeing 307 'Stratoliner': both aeroplanes are apparently based on the same concept and not only have identical designs, but also share components such as wings, landing gear and engines. The Academy kit has an excellent fit and a refreshing simplicity, so to speak: the interiors would be practically empty except for the simplest seats. So I borrowed a little from my etched parts box and fitted the metal seats with matching upholstery. It certainly looks better than originally! 🙂

A few quick pictures of the current state: I tried to apply the decals yesterday, but the Academy material turned out to be extremely brittle. The beautiful decal marking in red-white-blue on the rudder was a complete self-destructior - and that to such a clear and impressive extent that I even wanted to take a photo of it, because it looked funny 🙂
Well, no big deal, I'll just spray this part myself. In general, the photos make it clear that the decals need to be repaired or even redone in some places.
25 June, 07:18
Cuajete
Many times it is better to paint instead of using some decals. Luckily that has an easy solution, Roland. You do much more complicated arrangements than this and always have very good results. Cheer up!

26 June, 17:47

A few new pictures of the B-17B under construction: the tail is now in the characteristic red-white-blue colour scheme, now the phase begins in which the need for improvement and touch ups is recognised and the various small parts such as antennas, brake lines or the engines/cowling - well, here one can no longer speak of "small parts" due to the amount of etched parts. I can't wait to see how the clear parts have held up under the masking!
29 June, 19:28
Roland Sachsenhofer

I'm used to building old kits that need 'help'. But this one needs a bit more than usual. After a lot of pre-paint priming filling/scraping/hacking/filing/sanding work and then more post primer fiddling, it's beginning to take shape somewhat. I couldn't resist giving it a blast of aluminium lightly on the wings last night! 😉 👍

Hi Thomas 🙂 yeah, it's tried my patience that's for sure. Thanks for your words of encouragement though mate, really appreciated 👍 I'll get there. At the end of the day, if it looks (a bit) like a Mustang then it is a Mustang!! Obviously it's no Hasegawa! @mike, hehehe. Yeah I've kept my language polite, but not surprised my pain was still apparent! 🤣 Thanks for dropping by 👍

Thanks Nathan - I know you 'appreciate' this kit journey also! I'm really not sure that a stars and stripes aluminium scheme is gonna be the easiest finish to help hide imperfections of this kit either. But I'll do my best 👍

Hi Patryk 🙂 Thanks mate! That means a lot. It's true that more often than not, it's a bit of a slog to get these oldies into shape. It's often tempting to bin one, hahaha 🤣 Especially when I look on the feed and see all these wonderful new kits which seem to (nearly always) fit in such an accomplished manner. But I rather masochisticaly choose to continue! Who knows why!? You're very kind, especially as I'm aware of your own skills. Greetings back atcha matey 😎👍

Derived from the Mosquito the Sea Mosquito was intended to be used aboard the Fleet Air Arm's aircraft carriers. During its time in service it would only be used by land based squadrons. Two variants of the de Havilland Sea Mosquito were built and only 67 was produced.

Heyo all! I have not really posted anything about this particular project yet, even though is has been holding me up for quite a bit of time now...
As modellers, our hobby naturally includes a lot of problem-solving and some challenges and maybe I should not be complaining, but it felt like this particular project trew a bunch of sticks and stones in my path:
Firstly, the resin Humber Scout Car was abit of a challenge with all the sanding and cutting that comes with these types of kit... apparently taking the place of the instructions, which I did not get any of. With a bit of research however, it was overall ok to build.
Secondly, the Roden Panzerwerfer has rubber tracks which I knew were too short beforehand. Thus I first bought a 3D printed replacement running-gear from FC Modeltrend. That piece however turned out to be an example of how not to do 3D-printed products: it sat on the plate without any angle and was a single piecewith two tracks, the suspension and some chassis-parts... how does one support such a print? Apparently not correctly, as the supports along the side-details of the wheels and suspension parts were partially "molten" into the details which in the end prevented me from using this piece. If you have a micro-drill, calm hands and a lot of time, one could "carve out" the supports and reinstate the details, I suppose... For me, switching to a Modelltrans-set (one piece running gear for each side) was the order of the day. It is not perfectlycast either, but after some adjustment, I made it fit the Roden kit. Using the PE-set and doing the interior took a lot of time as well, but that was largely fine.
As said, maybe I am complaining too much and in that case do take these notes as a simple report on the difficulties experienced so far in this project... rant is over 👍
