I really wish that they release that beast in 1:72. Until then I follow the bigger ones. Looking at your first pictures I am sure this will be fun.

Welcome @Zsolt and DuperScale and thanks for your interest in this build. I was able to finish first step of cockpit section. 3D printed seats fit well into tracks even of they are designed to be glued on the plastic. I used Eduard PE tracks. Dashboard also made with PE. PE seat belts were planned but I felt they are too flat so I ordered Kelik 3D decals - they are better in my opinion.

@Michael: nice to see you here and glad you have fun 🤩 ICM plans to release the 1/72 in 2025 as far as I know and I have a good idea for a nice diorama. But definitely have to do this in 1/72 ... that thing is really big ...

Oh. Didn't know that. Those are good news.
You might be aware of two CH-54-builds in 1:72 based on the ol Revell kit which are absolutely stunning (with fire fighting equipment).
But now it's your stage. Cockpit looks very nice.

I think I know at least one of them 😝 . This build is supposed to be the military version operated in Vietnam - no extras except the tons of aftermarket I´m going to use

Welcome @CaptGPF - a little update on this build. Pilot and crane operators office done. Assembly of the main body was surprisingly flawless as the kit does not offer a lot of alignment points. Next steps will be masking transparent parts and glue them in place. Now the big parts are coming the bench needs to be prepared to handle this big thing ☺️

looking forward to seeing more of this project👍.my uncle(5th SF) was in country just after TET and one of the few things he ever... spoke of more than once, was about riding on top of a M113 that rolled over a mine

Thank you Mona, that must have been a terrifying experience. The idea would be a fortified position in the Mekong Delta. I'm planning to build a sandback bunker and a piece of ricefield. The M113's will be stationary in a defensive position. Soldiers will be relaxed not knowing what is coming. But the layout is still evolving. Haven't decide the size of the groundwork yet. I'll be starting the diorama base soon... Will be continued 😉

Looking good Mathias. Lovely work on the M113's. What did you use as the 50 cal casings?

Thanks Mr James, I used simply the copper of an electric wire. An idea I got from lasercreationworld. It is a bit too narrow, but the overal impression works I think.

Time to resurrect a project left in hiatus. Firewall would not fit so engine removed from chassis. Let the make over begin.

Got my 60's Gasser mojo back. Looks good so far. Headlamps will have to be re-done.

A couple hours work on the firewall allows the engine to fit in it's correct position.
I also applied new red film to the windows which looks much better though ideally new glass would have been preferable.

The red tint film looks proper cool!
Authentic too, a lot of the tube frame VeeDub racecars has blue or red tint plexiglass 👍
Motor position is spot on 😉

Yeah it's a good colour combo. I've seen green and amber glass used as well. I had contemplated white wall tyres but will leave them Black.

Why me? Tried another test fit and found engine air intake is foul of the body below windscreen. It looks like the engine mounts on chassis do not match up with The body in place so it's back to the drawing board again.

The firewall was fine. It's when the body is mounted that's causing problems so the front axle needs to be moved back slightly and engine mounts moved forward.

What a pisser! Is it a straightforward mod or are you stressing over it?
Bloody hell if anybody got the skills for mods it's you mate 😉

#^%*~/> •\?{+ !! Right, rant over. Starting the re-build and now discovered the frame is twisted (Probably my fault). Only remedy I can think of at the moment is to build a new frame and start again. Hey ho... At least I can then sort out engine and front suspension placement.

How could I miss that one!
You did a good job on the paint job. The engine looks good too! We know, this kit is not the best out there. I wrote it to you: for me it's a piece of memory on my childhood. I love this kit nevertheless. Should make a project for mine too. Like yours: it's for restoration or to leave it as is - only to put the parts together again.

Thanks Christian for the thumbs up. Your right, brilliant model just dodgy parts and fitment issues. I also forgot to widen the rear wheel arches before painting, so it will not take much to get it back on track.

Bozzer
It's ball busting Bozzer again.
I'm curious to know how you got on with this? I have two of these, and my plan was to build both versions. However, seeing this, I'm tempted to leave the standard version, for a more worthy kit, and go nuts, with one of these kits?
Any thoughts are appreciated mate?
