Welcome mates!
Thanks spanjaard and alec!

Zsolt: when i was looking for references i came across that there is a hungarian version.
Would have been really interested in it, but couldn't find anything about it.
Could also be due to the fact that these are yet to be delivered.
Could have asked you about it...😏
You've already done one as I've seen.
Still waiting on the new one when the time comes!

Anyway, started the bw afghanistan camouflage today.

22 February 2022, 20:11

I planed also to build an BW version in Afghanistan camo, but it's a little bit difficult to buy this kit, so I build first a Magyar one

Thanks mates!
Next time comes more detail painting.
The weathering still gives me a bit headache - dust on sand cam🥴
I'm wondering if I can do this off reasonably well...
25 February 2022, 21:35
Jv
Just got the same kit last weekend from a secondhand shop
Its just the 1999 kit
But same just new box as fare as I can see
My kit came whed a longer home made alu barrel
Looks pretty cool you have done a great job on it and nice for info to look up later
So thanks for sharing
26 February 2022, 12:00
Simon Nagorsnik
Thx Jv!
Yes, it's the original kit, only in new packaging.
As is usual with revell😏

However, I didn't have too many problems with the kit, even though I didn't get away with it completely without sanding.
Also there was no flash or sinking holes.
A readily available aluminum barrel would be a really good thing though...

Hope to see yours soon here Jv😁
26 February 2022, 12:11
Jv
Thanks Simon
The alu barrel looks like something the first owner made himself
A welcome surprise to find it in the kit
I bugth 4 models last weekend from that secondhand shop
Another one came whed pe in the kit
This weekend I'm picking up 10 kits old new stock from about 2013
I buy more kits then I build lol
Also need more tools and paints
And other things
I got my first kit sep last year
26 February 2022, 12:18
Jv
I paid 20 aud for the kit i think a real bargain
And I was thinking for that money its a good kit to practice
On
From what you guys are saying it maybe a rare kit and maybe I should practice on some other kit
26 February 2022, 12:22
Simon Nagorsnik
I know what you are talking about!
My kits are stored in about 10 large boxes, safely packed, and the stock of colors and tools has also increased😅
The good thing about it: these are all resaleable😁

I also had a fairly large increase last year, but I think that most people in this hobby feel the same way!
26 February 2022, 12:27
Jv
Yep there is always something you could use
But I think I have got alot of things sens I started
And sofare have had a bit of fun whed what I started so fare
Last week I worked 54 hrs in 5 days
I am trying to work less hrs this year
Last year I was working 60+ hrs a week and had no time to myself
So just had time to buy kits
Now tomorrow I will have 69 kits
I see that's not alot
Most here have much more
26 February 2022, 12:39
Robin (WhiteGlint)
It's important to find some time for yourself, regardless if you're building models or do something else in that time.
And you should be happy that you don't have that "many" kits in your stash. It's a curse. 😄

@Marcin: thanks for your comment mate!

@Jv,W.g.:
Today it is often really difficult to find enough balance in everyday life.
I know your problem Jv, when you say you work to much hours.
I often go to work 1-2 hours earlier to go home later.
Not always but the most times the hobby help me to came down.
And i'm close to you when you say that you love your kits.
I know that i never will finish them all that i have but it's very enjoiable to have them!
26 February 2022, 17:27
Jv
Yes I agree Simon
I take one out now and then take it out of the box and look at it
And then I also got my sealed kits
Its nice to have a few dobbels so I can keep
Sealed kits
Also great to have cheap kits that I can build and open just to look at
26 February 2022, 22:10

I will be picking up another bargain in a few hrs
10 new old stock so thay should be still all sealed kits
@10 aud each
8 planes
And 2 helicopters
So cheap I will not be scared to open them or build them
I also now and then buy
Kits from the shop
If its a model I really like

Honestly Simon, I noticed the details you handled about the dark green parts of the camo. Enhanced edge line and a little bit highlight/sun burn(can't find the word) with in. This resulted in a natural and comfortable look. Inspiring 🤔
28 February 2022, 14:45
James C
Awesome looking build and especially in 1/72 scale 👍
I have the Meng kit in 1/35 to tackle one of these days 😉
28 February 2022, 15:20
Simon Nagorsnik
Thank you Chan and James for your nice feedback 😁

@Chan: After I finished airbrushing, I reworked the edges and surface details with drybrushing (pale sand) to emphasize the details a bit more.
This is also a good trick to blend the colors together.
This effect will be a bit damped later, as the washing is still to be done.
But you can use this to simulate a light dusting, if you use a faded white color you can achieve a (what you might have meant 😁😉) sun bleached effect.
I have used acrylic paints but if you want to use this in later stages of the weathering, try well "bled out" oil paints, this creates softer effects.

@James: I would say you've chosen a good next project.
I personally find the Greek variant very interesting: a good alternative to NATO camouflage, they use other shades of green and brown paired with beige.
That would have been my first choice, but was too much effort for me when masking 😁😁

6 April 2022, 11:46
Simon Nagorsnik
It took some time, but now it's done!

I had to think a lot about how to set up the weathering, as I have never depicted dust effects on a desert camouflage until now.

Hope that I can convince to some extent.

It's really hard for me to fight off the urge to correct the structural issues with this kit. But I promised myself I would make this one out of the box.

2 August, 20:42

Mate, I think you should put the windshield uspside down. The ángel does not cope with the real one as I see on photographs.
2 August, 20:52
Skyhiker
Unfortunately it looks even worse the other way around. The idiot engineers at Revell should be fired.
2 August, 21:04
Sergio Ordonez
Well, I had some work with French engineers and I know shit happens. Could you take a photo with this one in the other position?
2 August, 21:09
Sergio Ordonez
drive.google.com/fil..J9/view?usp=drivesdk
The windshield is not an isoscelles triangle so the windshield has not a 45 degree ángel over the capot. Please, see these example of a TA-152 (and please, mind It is 35 years old and I was only 13 when I drestroyed It).
I think an easy solution can be made. I do not want any mate to be anoyed by an engineering issue. I had them everyday (it's my job, Factory engineering problem solving, known as 'shit managing") and It can destroy your mojo.

What a terrible canopy
3 August, 01:29
Skyhiker
After several hours of sculpting I got the canopy to fit better. I will continue with it tomorrow.
3 August, 02:12
Sergio Ordonez
Your mojo works, mate! Now you have became a great problem solver!
On the other hand, I think another 3D engineering guy needs to stop drinking and 20 years of 2D drafting. The fitting is worse than I could imagine. But I see is no a problem for a seasoned mate like you. Great work, mate!
3 August, 05:17
Nicolas
Following. I build this kit several times in older versions. The fit of the canopy is realy sh*t. My solution was (with about 10 years) to sand the backside of the windshild till it fitted. Of corse so most of the frame is missing.
3 August, 05:31
Thomas Kolb
What a struggle! It reminds me of some Heller and Amodel kits. But it looks that you manage to coax it into shape!
3 August, 07:11
J35J
Great effort and progress! 👍🏻
3 August, 07:55
Skyhiker
Sergio the TA 152 had a very different canopy than the 190. The 152 was designed for high altitude flying, was pressurized and had double panes.
4 August, 10:03
Sergio Ordonez
Thanks you, Skyhiker: I think I can remember now, as I researched about FW190 and TA152 black in the 90's. Also, canopy is bubble-shapped. Sorry, my FW190 Mustang have been gone forever, I expent the night trying to find It, just to find my solution, but I think only the reta of the TA152 has survived.
4 August, 14:05
Mr D
You done a better job of the seat belts than l did 🤣. The cockpit glass on my model was not very clear!
Looking good, ... Thanks for uploading 👍👍👍
11 August, 15:13
Skyhiker
Mr D did you also have so much trouble with the canopy? I read in the kit review at the bottom of the page that it was bad. I really wish the reviews would be moved up because I always forget about them. It took me quite a while to get the canopy to work. It needed a lot of reshaping to look right.
11 August, 17:40
Skyhiker
I decided to make my own blueprint for this plane. So, that's taking up a lot of my time at the moment.
11 August, 17:42
Mr D
Hi, yes l had trouble too, l did a dry fit before paint, and l had to take a combination off the glass n some off fuselage, and had to use a bit of UV clear resin.
I got it to fit in the end, but it's not very clear to see through.
I had a bit missing of my engine fan too, had to make it up with super glue gell.
11 August, 17:48
Alexander Grivonev
Built one too back in the day, the nightfighter version. Speaking of the canopy, I like how the rear part of it is just molded to the fuselage 😄. Used some other canopy I found in my spares because the one from the kit was entirely unusable.
10 October, 16:19
Mr D
Looking good 👍👍
It's a nice model when it's finished once you sort the shortcomings out.
I did get my prop to spin in the end....had to do alot of work to the cooling fan to make it run smoothly.
Good luck on next steps 😃👍
10 October, 19:29
Skyhiker
If I had thought it would have been a problem I would have dry fitted everything first. But I wanted to keep the parts on the sprue for painting. It wasn't worth messing up the paint job just to get the propeller to spin. Especially since the contact points were so fragile. So in the end I glued it together so it will be stable.

Cheers Clair... Just for fitting to the hull... The connections between the running gear and hull are extremely loose... Not to mention the rocker arm assemblies have a tendency to be misaligned... Just mocking it up at the moment and see where I need to shore things up... Happy modelling...

Stefan L.
@Mark Lawrence since this is my first BF109, I'm no expert yet but I also like the Emil just simply due to the fact, that the Gustav variants seem to get build more often, which why I like seeing the Emil instead of yet another Gustav!

@Marcin Dudek I really appreciate your comment Marcin! I wasn't expecting that someone really reads all the stuff I write but seems I was wrong! It makes me really happy that you found some useful tips even though this is just my second proper model and I am far from being a somehow experienced modeler. Take care and keep modeling 🙂

For the boundaries since it's straight edge you can just touch it up with a post it note pretty easily.

Nice job on the exhaust/gun stains. 👍 You are right, you really can't go too thin on that mix. I'm cheap so I just use XF-1 (and other colors for allied planes that used leaded gas) thinned way down with isopropanol and make multiple passes until it looks right. I also add some pastel/pigment to give some body to the stain as well like you suggested. Looking good, Stefan!
22 July, 16:40
Stefan L.
@John thank you!! Tonight I also used black pigment in the core and close to the gun barrels to give the stains a more interesting look, happy with the result, pictures will follow soon! 🙂 And thanks for the tips, appreciate them alot! 🙂

Amazing work on the antenna. Those cones are outstanding.
5 August, 09:24
Stefan L.
@Christoph Kunz thank you alot!! In retrospect the spring, the insolator and the cone should be closer together but I am still very happy with the result, hopefully you are able to reproduce those cones if you like them based on my little guide some posts earlier 🙂

Desert Marlin
Absolutely love these antenna cones. Excellent idea! How was the antenna glued to the masts?
8 August, 18:19
Stefan L.
@Desert Marlin thank you, appreciate it alot!! I used normal CA glue, not the slow drying or the thin one, just the regular VMS glue. Any CA will do the job. Just place a tiny drop on the mast, put the end of the antenna cable in it. Then you take you other end, stretch it a bit (thats the neat thing about those Uschi Van der Rosten rigging cables, because you can stretch them like a rubber band and they hold this stretched state, thus they look like a real, tensioned antenna cable would look like) then you put another tiny drop of CA on the other mast, but the rigging thru it and hold the position for 10 seconds and then you are done. To be on the save side, I then put another small drop of CA on the already glued ends of the antenna cable to enhance the connection even more. The end of the rigging was then cut using my exacto blade.
8 August, 18:55
Desert Marlin
Excellent! Could I get a link to the Uschi Van der Rosten cables?
9 August, 22:30
Stefan L.
@Desert Marlin sure, here is the link to the website I got them from (super-hobby.at/produ..ng-linka-0-02mm.html) I am Austrian, thus I shop on websites which are quite close to me, thats why the shop is from Poland. I am sure, you will find the same product or a very similar one at an American dealer. The one I linked you, is the exact diameter I also used (0,02mm), good look at finding this product! 🙂

@Desert Marlin and here is the link to the product on ScaleMates: (Rigging - Medium Fine 0.02mm.. Mig Jimenez A.MIG-8017, No))

Mr James
Well thats even more impressive Stefan. You've certainly got a talent for this hobby. I'm also impressed with detail in this Tamiya kit. Its comparable with the larger 1.32 Trumpeter kit I did a while back.
26 September, 13:38
Stefan L.
@Mr James thank you alot for those kind words! Just had a look at your models, they look awesome, especially the Winter Tiger looks lovely, I would be more than happy, if my current build, the Panzer IV, would come near such a high level of weathering, chipping etc.
About the Tamiya kit: the details are good, though not comparable to a 1/48 bf109 kit from eduard but Tamiya being Tamiya means that the fit is superb and with some additions like rivets and scratch building, this kit has a lot of potential for sure.

I built this kit too, in the same livery. I found it to be very well engineered and was very enjoyable. I convinced myself I shouldn't have put the fuel tank on the back but that was after I completed it.

Nice to have the interest, HB instructions bit weak!
They said to paint interior charcoal black like on the FW-190.
But l checked n the Romanian lAR interior was grey/blue.

Cheers 😃👍

Good to have you along Miguel, engine n wings next,

Love the idea of filling with acrylic, never thought about it. Does it hold well though time?
26 August, 13:14
Mr D
Hi, Yes lve used it alot and holds up really well , l find the fillers a bit messy and more trouble than it's worth on small gaps.
You do need to allow overnight drying with it for best sanding results.
😀👍
26 August, 13:42
Doubtingmango
Brilliant! The putty really can create a mess with finely molded details
26 August, 15:01
NLAWScametovisit
This is extremely clever!!!
26 August, 15:25
Mr D
Yes it has a habit of filling in panel lines n bits not necessary!!
This technique is same as using alot of paint to fill a gap or high build primer ect...just becomes part of the paint layer as it acrylic too.
But it's not for big gaps!! As there is a bit of shrinking overnight.
Be onto marking rivets next step after sanding... Then need to make choices on open or closed canopy???

I got to get myself a chrome pen. The result on those details look awesome
4 September, 09:53
Mr D
Thanks Miguel, the pen needs a good shake prior to use , if it awkward area you can pump some out n use brush...but work fast.
Best to put a clear over next day as it's bit delicate.

Do not forget that the mast of the antenna passes through the windshield and is very clearly visible. This model may come in handy in my albums
18 September, 19:29
Mr D
Ok thanks Alexander, HB didnt make the Mast installation very clear, the show it just glued on the top, will be very weak!! I've seen one build and it's come away!!
I'm going to use steel rod.
