The DPRK has apparently mounted SS-N-2 Styx anti-shipping missiles on IL-28's. Those are big missiles. I always liked the trainer version of it, I don't think there's a kit of it but you could make it out of two IL-28 kits… hmm. It's a great subject because it's a communist tube and also it has served in so many air forces there's a zillion making options.

So.. its not a bad kit, fit is fairly decent. little challenging in places.. But, its getting its first paint, or in this case, red paint and then wax guilt for the NMF

Apparently it works perfectly - I think I shoud try this stuff some day. As far as I heard it needs to be rubbed on the black matte primer (?)

I had heard the same, but I just go into bare plastic with it. Works just as well I find and does not loose minor detail as much.

lol thanks guys, yes Bernhard it is all brush painted. I've always detested the whole "Airbrush is better" that I kept hearing, so stuck with brushes and learned how to master them.

brush painting metal colors I find a particular challenge. Here it is perfectly done. I like this Marvel Comic like project. Those russians have a knack for that. Maybe to highlight some panels to make it look less toylike. If you find the time I would really appreciate if you could leave a word about your brushing techniques.

Welcome Dutch! This build is turning into a slog. Clamps and super-glue "force-holds" galore. Luckily it is a tiny plane so I'm nearly done already, just completing all the seam sanding.

Working on the cowl. I had to use 2-part epoxy clay to fill a large gap on the bottom of the cowl that was created by making the cowl fit straight & level.

The wiring was really quite challenging. I used the instructions for the model from Wingnut wings in 1:32 scale as a good wiring diagram. It took me about about a month to stretch all the wires.There were moments when I did not believe that I would finish it. 😉

To Mike: I couldn't find decals from AIMS here, so I decided to make an airbrush mask. I used the decal image as a base and redrew the whole thing in Corel. Then I cut them out of paper and tested how they fit on the fuselage. After many adjustments, I had the mask cut out on the plotter. It took a lot of time, but I think the result is not bad. (this mask is now available from MH models)

Wow, that's even more impressive then! I did see the MH Models masks. I have the AIMS decals, but I like the idea of masking the plane instead - plus, I read somewhere that some of the decals aren't the correct shape so hopefully MH got it right.

Can't you strip the sprues as a whole of the paint? Dip them in a bath of paint stripper? Might be a whole lot easier than sanding each piece

Most of the pieces are under carriage, so they're not that visible......but I stay awake at night knowing there are seams and that they must be eliminated! I think I botched the body paint job and I hadn't noticed on its original project. I just went over the lint - think HAIR - with 600 to 2000 and that took care of it. Mostly, I just thought it was funny that whomever I bought this kit from had gone to that much trouble to paint pieces ON the sprues with a brush, only to be done over with a rattlecan OFF the sprues.

The TS4 German Grey isn't nearly dark enough for the dash. Or, the actual color of the dash should be black, but the instructions called out for German Grey......I dunno, Tamiya.

Sometimes, it's easier to use a thin Sharpie, for knobs and buttons. It dries fast, so if you make a mistake, you can touch up, more or less, straight away. I also use a Sharpie for window rubbers, etc

Damn thing fought me at the end! I couldn't get the wheels to go into those wonderful gaskets and then the side mirrors refused to fit. I don't recall having had those issues before. Only TOO happy to finish. P.S. no harnesses, sorry. I can't see well enough to use PE buckles and the decals just look too fake, so......them Panizzis were brave!

To add detail to cockpit I used the new "Real Colors Markers" they work well with great coverage and so far the "brush" tip makes the job easy and natural

I still consider myself a beginner at the hobby, picked the kit up cheap, then did the research and realised why it was so well priced. It's taken well over a year to complete with long breaks and pauses due to it being such a hard build, along the way I've cut my teeth on filling and sanding, re-scribing, airbrush painting and some minor detailing for the side vents around the intakes. Glad it's all over! kinda happy with the results.
