Thank you, the vacuform challenge, 🙂

The use of a wood chisel to cut the piece totally revolutionized my approach and saved me time and cutting quality..

Merci,

@Davide Vitali the new parts are made of 0.5mm ABS sheet. I used a laser cutter to make them. By different power output, a somewhat sculpted effect can be achieved.

Worth a try. It can cut wooden boards, plastic sheets, or engrave on metal. It can also cut masking tape😛

It is definitely an interesting project! The result come out nice! A question about the laser cutter, how can you use it to cut masks? using laser or it comes with traditional metal cutters?

It's a very interesting job, I'm watching.
The non-scale thickness of the fuselage skin is clearly visible

WOW. Simply WOW. And a third Wow, because "aller guten Dinge sind drei"
1  11 February, 10:02
Lorraine Lin
Thank you mates!
@ Weizenbrot, My laser cutting has different cutting heads, a 10W blue light and a mechanical cutting knife. The blue laser can cut all dark-colored materials, but it doesn't work very well on the light-yellow masking tape. Therefore, I cut them with the mechanical cutting head. Or use a dark-colored (blue) masking tape. The precision of laser cutting is better than mechanical cutting knife.

BTW, red laser works on all materials, it can even cut the transparent materials. But it is more expensive.

Thanks Nicolas, the canopy will be a challenge. I sanded out the blemishes on the kit part but there are stress fractures and a crack going through it. I'll have to see if I can vacuform it but there is a ball turret behind it that would be a different thickness and I doubt I could vacuform a ball turret.

Welcome Dave. So far I like the kit.
 10 February, 23:17

After putting the ball turret together I realized that it would be very risky and way too much work to try and vacuform it. So it looks like I will have to use the damaged canopy because I don't want to mix and match glazing thickness.

Łukasz Gliński
Interesting kit, way better looking than I thought. But the transparencies are a bummer indeed
 12 February, 13:31

I only paid 5 euros for it so I guess I can't complain when the canopy is a mess. I bought someone's entire stash and it was one of the kits in there. Hopefully after it's painted it won't be too bad.

I'm going to try to make the hydrodynamic suspension work really, now I've got workable metal tracklinks. This means I have to make torsion bars inside the tank, and a system to connect them to the underside of the base. For the painting I deviated from the quite useless painting instructions and bought the colors I recognized in the book.

Thanks, Tom. Today I made some components and decided that the system of levers is replaced with cogs and wormwheels.
 4 September 2022, 14:19
Steven Van Dyck
I found a way to combine 2 wormwheel transmissions and a differential construction and then made the inner 4 axles spring-operated. A video of the result of the differential working can be seen on Youtube Video . Then I opened up all grid texture parts with an Airwaves-saw, the Tetra PE will fit in this. There appeared an ominous warp in the upper hull, so it's not all Tamiya quality... I installed styrene plates in the typical Tamiya sponson openings and covered the front fender parts with metal plate where the tools are hollowed out.

 11 September 2022, 22:02
Steven Van Dyck
The system had to be removed again because it could not move the R-Model tracklinks around. The cogs in it were too small to be driven by a worm. I found a solution but all components in the tank must be adapted. The upper hull now has a metal tray to fill up the ventilation system. The track pins were made with a heavy-duty wire cutter and the MasterTools slide caliper.

I was planning to have lots of figures in this diorama, but the guy who uploaded this kit to Scalemates had guessed the scale as 1/100 and it is rather 1/250. Therefore my HO scale Greeks are completely overscale and will not be used.

Interesting 👍
 1 January, 03:10
Steven Van Dyck
I started with changes to the access steps, I had to saw these flush with the base as can be seen on reference pictures. Also I had to remove a terrible warp, I did this without a base plank by connecting the corners with thick wire and bending that. I found out that Italeri reconstructed the inner naos columns like on old drawings with both colonnades equal in length. Most of the modern day reconstructions show the top row smaller, so I sawed of the first row and used this as a lengthening part. I also made the architraves thinner, these are really ugly from the box with a slanting side.

I bet you could get some z scale figures (1:220) and paint them however you like
 2 January, 22:58
Steven Van Dyck
Thanks for the tip, Ben, but I will solve the problem with some 1/200modern figures I got yesterday. I'll slice them and add 1mm, then cover it with a stola. I also had to perform lots of changes to the interior structure of the temple, using a floor plan I rescaled to 1/250. It appears Italeri has moved the pronaos and opisthodomos colonnades to the inside, to make up for the walls they made much thinner. I sawed out these floor parts and moved the colonnades to the outside. I thickened or replaced these walls with styrene. That meant engraving the outside of the styrene walls with block patterns. I also reversed some entrance walls because only one side of the gate part got a stone texture. I made the textureless side to go inside the wall. I moved the first two Ionic columns to fill the new space. I don't understand why Italeri is messing with the proportions of this building, just to be able to minimize the sprue variety to two shapes and as little wall surface as they could, while wanting to show off the inside. They also added the arm support to the statue, though that existed only on marble copies.
2  4 January, 01:43
Steven Van Dyck
The increase in length of the sidewalls is compensated with the unused inner wall parts. The four cutouts are made but I changed the sizes by recutting each part. The inside of the walls is covered with the cutout parts, taking care to continue the masonry. Between the layers I will add another sheet of the same thickness to get to 4.5mm. I will have to use styrene for the plinths, all of these were used for the gates.
1  6 January, 00:59
Steven Van Dyck
The inner walls are now connected to the outside with spacers. The plinths are machined from styrene plate so the walls fit to them. Four antes are added to the front walls. The inner tympanons are connected to the colonnade, that will fit in newly drilled postholes. I will remove the triglyphs there, they should only go on the outside and not be inclined. This colonnade isn't lined up with the outside anymore, the architrave will have to be skewed. More than 40 columns are now prepared.
1  7 January, 18:02
Steven Van Dyck
The outside colonnads are completed with the different architrave lengths connected At first I tried to connect these in series but there is an inconsistency in the triglyph bases (guttae). This disappears when the parts are connected in parallel. I also removed th middle triglyph because this was split, I exchanged with a complete one. I cut the moved tympanons of the interior colonnades to make fit the roof parts. I also shifted the outside tympanons a few millimeter outward, so they would extend like on the pictures.

 9 January, 17:51

I leveled the front walls with the middle structure and joined the ceiling parts after removing a small strip, so the pattern would match. Then I compared the 2 kit figures with some Schulcz figures I had. The kit figures are larger than 1 cm, so these are over 2 m 50 long in reality. They can only be used as statues. My added 1/200 figures are about 9mm to 7mm, so these are more realistic. To make them look like ancient Greeks, they are dressed in alu foil.
1  12 January, 21:06
Steven Van Dyck
A small change was done to the front wall to improve symmetry. The base was filled in where I had changed components. One of the interior pillars was straightened and now the colonnade and the temple inner walls could be connected to the ceiling, that was only held up by the thin outside Italeri wall. For this a series of strips was cut out in thin styrene so all ceiling beams could get postholes in the outer walls. Then these strips were split in half so you get copies for each side. The same was done for the colonnades, but with a piece of sprue in between two strip halves. That creatded an architrave that could rest on the colonnade near the goddess statue. A smaller version was made for the rear room. Now the ceiling was completely closing up and I could create a link between the inner portals, that at this point were still two loose colonnades with a roof triangle on them. I closed up the ceiling on top of these with thicker styrene plate and then connected the portals with a 21 cm long sturdy strip. Like that, you can lift the two portals as a whole and dry-fit it on top of the inner walls. Now the only thing left was to finish the roof. I connected the four roof sections with a styrene plate and left some room for the distance that I had moved the outer tympanons. That gap was filled in with styrene and then the tile layers were sawn out of that, which took some time to do thoroughly. One last omission from Italeri are the imbrices on the roof, you only get the tegulae as continuous tile rows without the capping tiles between each of the two cover tiles. I currently have no solution for this IMO unnecessary omission; Italeri could simply have cast these vertical tile rows on the parts. I finished with adding the acroterions. Maybe I can look for an existing N-scale roof, because adding styrene tile profiles would be madness with about 10 meters needed.
 22 January, 01:50
Steven Van Dyck
The ancient Greeks are primered grey and the building is primered in marble colour. For the roof I have found a solution in Redutex stickers. These have the approximate dimensions of the roof, but will have to be cut up to fit exactly. Then they will also be repainted.

I'm amazed how much work you've done to correct this kit.
 24 January, 16:19
Steven Van Dyck
"Meden agan" is an ancient concept that doesn't apply to me... Today the painted figures have provided a sacrifice of animals, but the difference in scale means that they caught some aurochses in stead of regular oxen. I also covered the empty roof with Redutex tiles and painted these in marble color.
1  27 January, 21:10

Thanks, Ben. The stone parts are now shadowed with Tamiya Dark Yellow 2 and then highlighted with white. The ceiling, doors and portals are masked to paint with Gunze Wood H37 and Tamiya Fieldgrey for bronze. The goddess statue was painted white too, then masked with gum and sprayed gold with a small rattle can.

I painted the stars on the ceiling in AK True Metal gold and started on the decorative elements with Vallejo paints.
 31 January, 14:06
Steven Van Dyck
The statues in the tympanon are painted according to some websources. Light blue is added to the frieze. I also bought more Redutex products to embed the temple in its surroundings.
 5 February, 16:16
Steven Van Dyck
A base is made from a picture frame, some foamboard, a cardboard wall and two Redutex 3D-floor decals. I used some topographical charts to get the right surroundings for this dio. The temple is anchored in the base with some tailored sprues and it will fit level with the foamboard. Some Joefix basic nuts will be used for some foliage.

 20 December 2021, 16:38

Thanks 🙂 I have to admit, I'm quite fond of the shape of the turret too — it looks far better than the plump MBT 70, if I say so myself 🙂 And to think the only reason it has this shape is because that's the only thing that will fit if you want flat front faces and not lose internal volume.

 25 December 2021, 22:01
Jakko ‌
Thanks, and if you ask me: Go for it 🙂 The main thing, IMHO, is to make it a plausible real vehicle. Don't just take a prototype MBT 70 and paint it as a tank in service, but think about how it might have been improved in minor (or major) ways had it been adopted. And then build those improvements, of course 🙂

A mean machine! 👍
The mine plow makes the tank look even more aggressive.
 26 December 2021, 11:44
Jakko ‌
Thanks 🙂 The Dragon kit is missing a lot of details even if you build it to represent a KPz 70 prototype (you can't built an MBT 70* from it without a fair amount of conversion: engine deck, hull rear, headlights, front stowage bins, smoke launchers and more) so I felt I had to add those to this model too. Basically, it's part speculation and part adding missing details of the real tank.

* "MBT 70" was the American designation, "KPz 70" the German one. The Dragon kit represents a late version of the latter, not the former.

 18 January, 09:48
A.J. Madison
@Jakko I saw that you swapped out that ridiculous 152mm Shillelagh weapon for the 120mm Rheinmetall Rh-120. So that's the first thing I will change on my US MBT-70. In my what-if, the Shillelagh/152mm was determined to be deficient/inadequate by the time the US MBT-70 was committed to production. So the MBT-70A1 would be upgraded with the Rheinmetall 120mm. Haven't decided what the mantlet would look like tho.
1  22 February, 01:43
Jakko ‌
My line of thinking was that for this one, it went more or less the other way around: in the 1970s, Chobham armour was the thing to have, so they upgraded the M70 (basic MBT 70 with some improvements) to have that — which necessitates the angular turret, because it's very hard to make Chobham armour in a curve (see below-the-turret-rin..s-and-fiction-1.html). I then envision them replacing the increasingly outdated 152 mm gun-launcher by the 120 mm gun that Germany developed for their KPz 70, because the Germans already wanted some percentage of their tanks armed with a true gun anyway (that last part is RL, BTW).

In my case the mantlet is so big and forward because of the need to accommodate the Chobham armour. You may (or at least, I did 🙂) also want to consider that the 120 mm L/44 gun's trunnions are quite far back (inetres.com/gp/military/cv/weapon/M256.html) so if you just stick a 120 mm barrel to the original kit gun mantlet, it will actually be set too far back into the turret.

After some time away from the bench I am returning not with an airplane as usual but with something different (although still modern) - a tank in 1:35.
Specifically it's the T-14 Armata. Although it is in development for quite some time, not many units have been produced. So I took the creative liberty to imagine a what-if splinter camo to add a bit of color to the tank instead of painting it in the dark green as it is seen in the victory parade.

My first tank model ever, will see how it goes. Also, some aftermarket as always.

Undersides sprayed blue-gray with Mr Paint. Now let's wait a day for the paint to dry and then it's time to start working on the splinter camo. With my current speed, I expect to be finished by midsummer.

Oh yes, once you get used to MRP, you'll never want another paint brand anymore! I love their colors, pigmentation and general ease of use. And, as a bonus, their sheen is perfect for adding decals directly on top.

I am trying to find a way to avoid tiny gaps between the splinter camo color zones. I think I have figured it out - before spraying a color zone, also remove the masks for all adjacent surfaces not yet painted. Thereby a slight spray overlap is created, so even if the mask is then replaced with a tiny bit of offset, it should not be visible. Special Hobby writes something like that in the mask description, but it's written in a very obscure way.

macro is a bitch for this kind of details... if you place the model in the display cabinet, can you see that microline with wrong color? i think you can not 😉

I have now started to add the masks to the models. It's quite a tricky task because I need to be extremely precise with the application - even the tiniest errors will be magnified as more mask segments are added, until things no longer add up. So it's a matter of constantly realigning the segments, which makes it all rather time consuming. BTW, I noticed that the pattern has a few minor errors, but I definitely won't lose any sleep over it.

I have always had the conspirational theory that the Danish air force had a secret department dedicated to making life miserable for modellers, with their odd fonts, colours and aircraft modifications. The splinter camouflage is clear evidence of a similar department in the Swedish air force.

Łukasz, you are absolutely right. The first project ended up with the half-finished model flying gracefully into the bin after one mistake too many. I am now giving it a second attempt, knowing the pitfalls in advance and also possibly being slightly more experienced. I am already past the line where I gave up the last time. To be quite honest, this kit is not that bad, it just needs a bit of persuasion and elbow grease.

Cuajete, thank you! No, you need to cement the part. Unfortunately the fit is rather poor, so you will need to be careful with the correct alignment or the model will not sit straight on its wheels.

I am now getting to a tedious level where I am just trying to eliminate the rough patches before priming. Lots of filling, sanding and polishing. Since the Hungarian Beagles had extremely smooth metal surfaces (coated with a clear coat), every blemish needs to be fixed or they will just stick out like a sore thumb.
 17 January, 07:59
Alec K
I feel your pain Thomas. I am dealing with same on my build. Overall, your Beagle rebooted build is coming along nicely I think 👍
1  17 January, 13:13
Skyhiker
I usually use super glue for filler to speed up the process since it doesn't shrink and dries quickly. A modified electric toothbrush can help with sanding and polishing. I've had some pretty good results using mine. I just glued a Velcro disk onto it and attached the soft side of the Velcro to any sandpaper that didn't have it already.
2  19 January, 10:32
Thomas Kolb
Skyhiker, thank you for the tip! 🙂 I have in the past tried to use superglue, but I find it that it dries really hard, much harder than the plastic and so it is very difficult to get an even surface. I also tried liquid styrene (pieces of sprue molten i solvent), but it takes ages to solidify and is super messy. Nowadays I just take my time with regular putty and sanding sticks and finish off with Mr Hobby polishing cloths. I then use a regular manual toothbrush to brush over the surfaces and clean up the panel lines.
1  19 January, 11:32
Cuajete
Well done so far, Thomas 👍
I think it's better to mix cyano with talcum powder for smoother sanding. I've heard something about that, but haven't tried it yet.

Hi Thomas 👋
I use super glue gell , the locktite version, it is really fence think super glue, but it doesn't dry as hard sands bit easier.
I've used super glue and soda it did generated alot of heat and fumes. Experiment with it first l would advise.
Super glue gell is slower to dry, l tend to leave it for an overnight dry.

Recessed frames at a clear part are really a weird feature. I like how this one progresses.
I share your thoughts on the KV masks. Often I wished that they would have done them on paper, but on the other hand they are often the only game in town.
1  21 January, 19:00
Mr D
I may be wrong but that masking material sounds like the wrap they use to protect surfaces and sometimes stuck on new appliances ect.
Your doing a great job of it so far very crisp work 👍😀
1  21 January, 19:32
Thomas Kolb
Mr D, it's exactly like that material. I was almost ready to fire up the primer when I noticed that almost all the masks had began to lift off at the corners. It would have been a nightmare to have paint blowing in on every glass pane. I am now spending the evening cutting my own masks from Tamiya masking tape, based on the KV Models masks - even if it takes more time, it is definitely worth it.
2  21 January, 20:01
Mr D
It's best to do that, some times it's good to breakdown tedious jobs into 2 or 3 sessions bit more comfortable than way, always best to double check maskings just prior to airbrushing, sometimes even Tamiya lifts on awkward edges, l usually put a bit of colored thick clear on bits like that as a masking fluid 8/10 times it holds down better... I go almost to the edge.
I use a thick gloopy clear as it doesn't run under joints in masking.
I don't use latex fluid as it is sticky n pulls of at slightest touch.
Good luck with it 🤞👍
1  21 January, 20:13
Живко Джаков
The material is Oramask 810. I don't like it at all. This foil gets big cars and things, but it's hardly applicable for our purposes. If I make masks, I prefer 3M 50-series. Much more flexible, stretchable and thin. Yes, the glue is much more aggressive, but for a period of two weeks it doesn't cause any problems. I tried to buy paper in large sheets. At least A3 or at least A4, but I couldn't find such anywhere.
2  21 January, 20:21

Shiny black primer coat added and I am now waiting for the primer to fully dry before I can start metalizing. 1  23 January, 08:56
Thomas Kolb
Pierre, it's a primer called Badger Stynylrez (or UMP Ultimate Primer) and comes in different colors and sheens. It really levels out beautifully if you spray wet on wet, but it requires a lot of air from your airbrush (almost 3 PSI) and cannot be thinned with anything I have tried. Also, you need to use a very wide nozzle (0.4 mm works for me).
2  23 January, 09:36
Michael Kohl
Hi Thomas,
I think a small error sneeked in concerning the pressure. 3psi is way too little. 30psi would equal about 2 bar and 3 bar are roughly 45 psi. As I never managed to achieve satisfactory results with this primer with pressures up to 2 bar, I guess 45psi/3bar might be the intended recommendation.
2  23 January, 13:14
Naram
Thank you Thomas, if I read correctly accordinng to Michael you are around 2 bar (30 psi), how do you manage not to flood the model and keep the detail such as you did ?
1  23 January, 13:25
Thomas Kolb
Michael, you are absolutely right. 3 bars is what I meant. Thank you for correcting!
 23 January, 13:27
Thomas Kolb
Pierre, the Badger primer is so thick that a lot of air is needed to simply drive the airbrush. It sprays great with about 2.8 bars of pressure and levels out beautifully. I first mist the surfaces so a good adhesion layer is created, wait a few seconds, and then paint wet-on-wet until the surface is fully covered. If the coat dries inbetween the spray coats, it will lose some if its shine, so you need to work really fast!

Finally metalized! Now let's give the metal a day to cure before applying the protecting varnish coat and then proceed with the detail paintjob on gear bays and stuff. Also, boy, it took quite some time to fully spray this model, sometimes I am glad that I don't do 48's.
3  24 January, 09:22
Alec K
That metallic finish looks great Thomas. What prompted the brush application of the gloss coat?
1  2 February, 04:43
Thomas Kolb
Alec, it levels out so perfectly that I literally cannot see where I had applied it. With a brush I can more easily keep track, based on panel lines. With the airbrush I tend to miss spots and these naked areas will later cause a terrible mess when doing the weathering with oils.
1  2 February, 10:21
Naram
finish look great ! I would not that imagine that brushed varnish coat levelled so well. soon decal ?
1  2 February, 11:17
Thomas Kolb
Naram, yes, I love this stuff! There are really not a lot of decals to go on this Hungarian Beagle, basically just national insignias and tactical numbers. Also very little weathering as the metal was varnish coated. A bit boring, but that's how they were.

Great progress and entertaining narrative 🙂. The trailer wheels turned out nice, I can't imagine making something like that. Just curious: why not make one and cast a copy (I think you have done that in the past)? Or does this have to do with that logical thing…

Lex: Yes this is from the old Airfix kit. Quite enjoying the build so far - although that's probably because most of the build is scratch work. 😄
Alec: Typically the trailer wheels look like a different size to the other wheels in the kit which is why I had to cobble something together rather than cast them. I've been meaning to try and scratch wheels for a while so it was also a bit of an experiment. Hopefully future ones will be better.

At the moment it's very enjoyable project. It's helping to keep my grey matter from seizing up completely, working out how to make something from a pile of bits.

I am pulling up a seat. I can't wait to see what you do with the scratch building of an I beam.

Thanks Jennifer. Hopefully I'l show more work soon. 🙂

Really creative way to make rubbish. Im honestly surprised at how well you can DIY and scratch stuff, top notch stuff. Either way the progress is nice.
Also if you don't mind me asking, what operation did your missus go through? Having to administer blood thinners sounds pretty serious.
 22 December 2024, 16:00
gorby
Thanks Kesa. 🙂
Mrs Gorby had a hip replacement op. Normally she'd just need medication for the blood thinning but fortunately for my scratch-building junk pile, they thought injections would be better.
Okay, that makes me sound like a bad person. 😄

Not at all... you are aware of your "waste footprint" ^^
1  22 December 2024, 16:41

Gotta agree with shadowlight. Your not a bad person 🙂. This reminds me of a quote from one of my favourite games: "I'm not an angel, but when you see Trevor your gonna swear I am one." Except It's "I'm not an angel, but when you see Kesa your gonna swear I am one." 😄

Progress has been slow. I have a problem with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) so everything slows down including brain and enthusiasm. Particularly enthusiasm. It's the part of the year I have more difficulty working out how to make parts and usually the first or second attempts end in disaster before something passable emerges.
Perhaps I should drum into myself "Must do KITS in the winter…. Must do KITS in the winter..."

Luckily this dusty work in between didn't kill you (even if the mask looks like it tried hard), so now we see new marvellous scratch work 👍
 15 January, 16:16

Thanks Robert and Frank. 🙂
It was quite a good mask Frank, it's now black on the outside but completely white inside. Mind you my entire workshop* is completely covered in a fine black dust which I haven't had the enthusiasm to clean up yet. Maybe tomorrow.....or the day after. 😄

* I call my workshop 'The Hutch'. I'm a veggie, which means I eat rabbit food, therefor.... 🙂

I must admit that this part of the build was more irritating than enjoyable, although having said that it was certainly preferable to 'Useful work'. 🙂

Thought I'd pop n see how Gorby is getting on with his scratch building 👀.

It's great what's being created again - the kit base seems to be a challenge.
Good succeed!
1  25 January, 09:13
gorby
Thanks Marko.
Of the two builds, I'm finding the kit conversion (the Scarab) to be more of a challenge than the full scratch-build (The Mechanical Horse & trailer) which isn't what I was expecting at all.
 25 January, 09:29
gorby
Still progressing slooooowly. These tiny 1/76 bits seem to take longer to make than they do in larger scales. 1/48 feels huge in comparison and 1/35 would probably blow my mind.
This update means the Mechanical Horse is now complete, yaaaaaayyyy. 🙂
Eeeerm, except the tiresome colouring-in bit of course. 🙁

gorby, your pic 73 reminds me an old joke:
A drunk man comes home and his wife is waiting for him with a broom. He asks her: "Do you want to clean or are you going to fly off again?"
Nice scratch work again 👍

True about the binmen, pick a metal bin off the floor to their back, everything was in it. No recycling back then. By the way that's a rather fetching brush ( Erm, Boom, Boom)

Thanks Michael & Mark. 🙂
 27 January, 12:05
Mr D
Gets better every time 👏, the old bin wagon used to have a storage bucket on the side... remember they had brooms n couple shovels...for when the stuff fell everywhere,
I remember they used to come round the back of the house open the gate "which they never closed" and Cary the old black rubber type bin on there back, they used to hopp on the side of the wagon between streets " Before Health n safety 🤣" most bin-men were on the sick with bad backs before 50.
Remember the heavy rubber lids that said "No Hot Ashes"
No faffing getting it built 🤣 famous word's.
Great work so far 😀👍

Thanks very much for your comments mates. 🙂
Mr D: I'm old enough to remember the predecessor to the black plastic bins, the galvanised steel ones – the ones which rusted and sometimes when they were picked up the bottom fell out. Thankfully they were replaced before I started to work nights because bin day used to be a very noisy business. 😄
Thanks to everyone again. 👍

Aye aye, I think Gorby may have missed his true calling 😉

I love the garbage collection nostalgia. I got the feel for the British variety from Mr. Bean. 😄
 28 January, 22:44
Mark Sherwood
@Alec K. Try the Dustbinmen, you can get episode's on You Tube. A late sixties, early-ish seventies sit com. The cart was nicknamed Thunderbird 3. I think it was written by Jack Rosenthal , which I think he wrote London's Burning too.

Alec: When I left school in the late 70's there wasn't much call for someone who talked rubbish in Coventry. The politicians were mostly in London. 😄
Mark: I've never head of that programme.
Bas: welcome to the oddness. 🙂

Michael: I can't guarantee the quality of my prattling but it's nice to hear my own flavour of odd is appreciated. Also, I like your little furry friend (No that ISN'T a euphemism 😄 ).
Although progress has been slow there was a bit of a boost yesterday and I'm hoping that something (hopefully not the kitchen) will get painted by next weekend. 😮
Now that's jinxed it hasn't it.

I'm slowly getting the the finish line. Someone pointed out this nice video about the Scarab which shows what a game changer it was (why does everything on YouTube have to claim it's a 'GAME CHANGER!!!!!' and when you watch it seems they've only found the cure for insomnia.).

These details you've made from scratch are simply unbelievably awesome... I suppose I should buy the same glasses (photo #99 😉

Nice magnifiers! I have been using an optivisior in conjunction with 3+ magnification readers for years. The trick is not to let anyone see you wearing that. What magnification is that Amazon find you are sporting?

Watching in awe, yet again. Really enjoying the ride Gorby 😀
Oh, and warm beer is an awful nightmare to us savage continentals 🍻

It isn't the first time I've used magnifying glasses but these are a GAME CHANGER!!! 😄
Alec: I usually use the 3X magnification although these do go up to 5X – which may take some getting used to as it's like being drunk without any of the pleasure. 🙂
Jan: Obviously non Brits have to chill their beer to hide the flavour. 😉

Thanks all for taking the time to comment mates. 👍

I went to Zenni optical website and got on the online chat. Told the person I wanted glasses with my short distance correction for doing close up intricate work with +2 magnification. He helped me adjust my prescription to this and they made me a set for $35 that are an amazing help.
2  6 February, 19:15

that seems a great idea Ben. gorby, those details are truly stunning.....
1  6 February, 22:52

Thanks mates. 🙂
Ben: The new eyes cost me £35. The built in LED light is a revelation as much as the better vision. The old mag glasses had a light but the extra batteries made it too heavy and very uncomfortable to wear so I didn't put batteries in it. The new one has a rechargeable battery built in which make it much more comfortable. Which is just as well as I need it for about 90% of my modelling now.

Sorry about my tardiness in updating this album, blame my daughter. I keep telling her I've retired and should be leading a life of leisure but that apparently means nothing to daughters. I can't hold her entirely to account as I've been pruning a tree this morning. I can be a bit, errm, lets say "vigorous" when it comes to pruning. The trees probably think of it more as a near-death experience 😳 . Is attempted arborecide a thing?
Aaaannnnyyyway, the fun is over. Now it's time to suffer. Yes I've arrived at the colouring-in bit where I traditionally snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. 🙁
