(And for everybody else with knowledge about the different versions of the Yak-12, yes, I am aware of the differences between the A-version in the kit and the R-version used by the Hungarian People's Army. But since I am not able to scratch build the entire wing and empennage structure, let's just call it artistic license.)

Thank you Michael, Nicolas & Bruce for your interest and compliments! This kit is actually not quite as bad as some other Amodel kits I have built - the designers have created some pretty nifty solutions here! If anything, it is a bit unforgiving - make one small mistake and you can be sure that it will keep coming back to kick you.

Yes Thomas, I don't think you get any easy builds from Amodel. But with some work you get a nice and rare model. I realy like your progress. 👍

Bruce, Lukasz, Cuajete, Nicolas, thank you! Yes, Amodel is actually cool in that they take a chance to make models outside the ordinary. Who else would design a model kit of a strange and ugly little high-winged Soviet aircraft instead of another Stuka, Tomcat or a Spitfire?

Roland thank you mate! Cuajete, yes, this is the best gloss coat I have ever tried. It levels out to an absolute mirror shine (at least if it is applied to a perfectly smooth paint layer). This model ended up with a bit of orange peel effect at some places, so it is not absolutely perfect, but I can get away with it.

It's best to visit an exhibition - you'll get lots of questions about where to find this kit 😉

Thanks very much mates, I'm quite taken aback by your lovely comments. 🙂
I know all to well what would happen if I took it to a show Frank, there would be a continuous stream of people telling me that the mechanics don't make sense and wouldn't work - something i already know. 😄 😄

Gorby, I watched with great interest the whole progress of the construction. Your scratchbuil skills are top notch and the result of your efforts is truly phenomenal. 👍
I agree with bughunter, I'm sure there would be plenty of people at the show who would want to know what kit you used to build the model. 🙂

It is not easy to grasp that this model is made entirely of bits of styrene and other bits of material. I had estimated the model to be larger until I saw comparison with the pot of Tamiya paint.
The little dog fits in perfectly. Respect for your skills and dedication.

Thanks Bohrmann. I find scratch-building to be a good way of keeping my brain ticking over. I enjoy trying to work out how I can make things out of what I have available (god forbid I have to spend money 😄 ). Sometimes it helps me keep my mind off the world falling apart. Unfortunately, as with many modellers when I view the completed model all I see are the mistakes.
Thanks for your comment. 👍

Gorby, I'd say that's the "curse" of most modelers. No model is absolutely perfect. Only more or less close to perfect. It's natural that as the author of your model, you know all of its (even if only minimal) flaws and things you'd like to do better. The rest of us see "only" the result of your work. And I can assure you that what we see is very good indeed. 👍👍👍

Wim: I wasn't impressed with the Gasoline range either and certainly not impressed with the prices. Mine cost probably 1/3 of what that kit cost and I enormously enjoyed the built – probably more so than any kit I've ever done.

Holy s#*t Gorby. This is AmazIng! I am about halfway done reading the brexit thread and... the rivets, THE RIVETS!!! Very educational, and definitely very entertaining. Not surprised you left this boring lot for the "others"😉 😄. I am starting a scratchbuilding project myself, but it will be of kinder garden variety compared to your undertaking. Cheers 👍

The rivets were far from the most enjoyable part of the build but these early tanks would look naked without them. I'll look forward to your scratch-build Alec, no doubt it will be astounding.

Up until this, tanks were of little interest to me, but I thoroughly enjoyed this build, probably more than any model I've ever done. It kept my brain working right to the end. I'm not saying that there will be no more aircraft from me, but there will certainly be more AFV in my near future. 👍

Another build in the series "What's gorby up to now?" Be honest, though. The only reason you didn't have orange flares was that you couldn't get over the fence at the local airfield to steal a couple of windsocks!

Scale models can be converted? So like a F111 model could be fitted with a nuke even though the original model didnt have one?

Definitely Kesa, there is a whole range of aftermarket conversions you can buy or if you are feeling adventurous, some conversions are reasonably easy to scratch build yourself. I have a couple of drawers full of plastic sheet of various thickness and plastic and metal rods, tubes, strips etc. I once saw a fantastic large scale scratch build of a B17 build that used the plastic from yogurt pots as the skin.
