Welcome Nathan, Augie and John. @ John, no it means Ready to build., once I have everything I want as far as aftermarket stuff I put it all in the box and mark it RTB so I know everything is there. Otherwise I sometimes end up buying stuff I already have. A quick update on this one, paint and decals are done and and sealed. Waiting for anti-glare panel to dry and I will apply the wash. So getting near the end on this one. I will try and get some more pictures up soon. Spoiler, I did not do the box art version.

Hey Villiers/Christoph - hope you enjoy the build and thanks for watching the progress. Thinking about a custom paint job on the second spitfire with reference to the album power slave of which Aces High is from. Have some home print decal sheets that I have been meaning to use for years so might try testing them out. Revell have been kind enough to send a second Eddie Sprue so will have him seated in both planes when completed.

How has the self made decals been ??

Hey Mr D

They have been easy to print and super quick to detach from the backing compared to official decals. Interesting to play with but a note to the wise, figure the decals you want and their placement as transparent decals will only be visible on light colours. See my body art for an example!

You then have the issue of how to get round this, which I have yet to decide the best method. Thinking maybe a top coat then a second run through the printer!

Both white and transparent paper are hard to adhere to bumps on the surface without creating bubbles, think this might be A: thickness B:my poor application (more likely 😅).

I need to find some junk kits to do some proper testing before I next use them on a project I think 🤔

Good luck with it, sometimes double printing can off-set a little so make sure paper 100% straight.

Know that for a fact, worked as a printers assistant for a time and adding gold elements required a method of double printing, was a nightmare 🤣

Picture 8 : I screw up riveting on the second wing. 😅 I was thinking that doubling the number of rivet lines was a good idea on this part of the wing, turned out it wasn't...
I used Tamiya Surfacer to cover everything and start again

Thank you all for your interest ! This is my first attempt on riveting an all airplane, I wouldn't say it was painful, but rather a looong and sometime tiring job. Overall I really enjoyed the experience and the satisfation when highlighting the rivets with a black wash 👌

Many thanks everyone ! It means a lot during this time consuming project. The finish is acheived by cleaning and polishing the model prior to paint stage. Then by using well diluted paint for thin and smooth coats of paint.

NMF finishes are more work, but so much more rewarding when done. Super metallics for me definitely the metals paints available.

Mr. Hobby Super Metallic pros : much stronger during weathering steps. cons : dilution can be tricky, not much choices in shades.
AK pros : more variety of color , perfect pre dilution for airbrush, cons : very sensitive to solvant during weathering, high drying time.
