Had hoped to build this great looking car OOB but I've some how mislaid the all be it limited decal sheet. I was going to have a go at doing my own decals or stencils but in look for info I found a sheet from DECALDOC.COM which includes all the extra advertising.

The shop.decaldoc.de/index.php decals are great design but are a bit of a challenge for me. I find them tricky to get into the grooves so much so I totally messed up the roof top gold and had to cobble together a cover from extra gold decals. I'm not sure how they will take the layering yet so will leave them over night. I like the use of a silver base layer to boost the decals colour and prevent paint colour leaking and affecting the top decal. Another point on decaldoc decals is the top film is the whole decal sheet so you have to cut each out and there is no placement image so a good subject reference is required.

That all said they look good so 🤞I don't mess them up any further

#Ben M &#Alberto thanks for the comments as for the silver under the top decal they work great and are provided the correct size and shape by the decal producer Decaldoc of Germany. I'd never seen this approach before and I'll keep the unused silver decals for future use on my own work as they really give the white a punch - seethe wee Ford logo on the side strip (no silver under ) compared to the white discs!

Well the terror of removing mask struck and in internal glass is all messed up, it looks like moisture however time in sun and in airing cupboard does not help.. I'll continue to gloss and polish the bodywork then I'll take stock befor next steps. I may have a go at cutting out the glass to clean and replace testing a side window first, 🫣 yet more work on a fill in kit 🙄.
Lesson for today is do not fix glass with external masks on check the internal glass is clean, but there you go this is modelling not assembly. Least I've had practice replacing glass see my last model - RNLI Shannon Class Lifeboat | Album by Sybar (1:72)

CaptGPF,
The build is looking great. As a former A-6 pilot, the only time you'd have both sets of flaparons up and speed brakes out would be on landing roll out. Just so you know. And at times I adjust my builds just because I want to show some various capabilities that interest me. So I get it. But I thought you might be interested in that just in case you had something else in mind.

As always I am thinking about the colors. I will use Vallejo Model Air and tend to select 71.327 for the lighter shade and 71.143 for the darker. Both seem a little bit too light, but with thin coats over black primer and a dark brown oil wash, this should work i think.
The weapon loadout will be the one mentionen on dstorm.eu hope that makes sense?

yes to DAGUET 1991 = good war armament is MAGIC II , MATRA 530 and ventral reservoir ! for air defens superiority ! on the 2000 under the engine fuselage at the rear, a central decoy box was fitted as a matter of urgency in place of the parachute housing and on both sides!

Taking a seat! BTW, where do you get your 3D images for printing?
1  14 March, 20:26
DerMattes Schrijver
The files for 3d printing are from cults3d, the engine is linked in the project. The company sells this as STL files on cults or from their own shop as printed resin parts. The missiles are from cults as well, they were free files but the modeler seems to set a price to his models after some time. To be fair, a very reasonable price for the quality! I am currently doing the decals. Nearly every little bit is wrongly numbered, I am using a picture of Italeri's promo build from the Spielzeugmesse as reference because most is not clear on actual photos of the Mirage. Stay away from this kit if fun is something you want when building a model.
1  4 April, 20:31

1  8 April, 19:32

Antennas added, small parts painted and did some additional weathering at the exhaust and overall with the airbrush. I faded the colors a little in some spots and tried to add weathering like in some pictures of this particular aircraft.
1  12 April, 06:55
Cristian A
Very close to the finish line! Looking great!
1  12 April, 07:57
DerMattes Schrijver
Finally reached the finish line 🙂 I had my ups and downs with this build, the kit itself is kind of weird. The big underside delta wing piece has nice, finely recessed details. Then there is the fuselage underside with fixed gear bay doors for the front gear. The upper side is more rough, the radar cone is famously wrong for a production aircraft because of the panel lines from the prototype. Where the wings meet the fuselage the fit is not good, with huge gaps on both sides. Just filling them leaves a flat area, so I filled and sanded it multiple times. The riveting I tried is barely visible at all, which is a good thing as I clearly need more practice with this. The pictures from the project banner where my references for the weathering and the panels where the unique desert camo paint is missing. I really like the 3d printed exhaust! The fit was simply perfect, including inside the fuselage. The designers surely knew what they were doing, as this addon was one of or the best fitting part on this kit 👍 😉
There are decals provided for the tank and the missiles, but only the placement of the tank and missiles is mentioned in the instructions, the decals for them not at all.
Overall, a challenging kit for me. Thank you all for the likes and the interest! 🙂

Should Fences be considered Full Kits or Detail Sets? At present the items seem divided more or less equally between the two, quite randomly. It is possible to argue either way, but it seems logical to place them in one or the other category.

An interesting build. We have a club contest in November for dive bombers. I selected this one because it seemed like a good kit to build. I was a bit concerned about painting the canopy, but a fellow club member told me that FrogTape® Delicate Surface Painter's Tape worked great. It allows you to see where to cut as it is somewhat translucent. The aircraft is two-tone although my paint choices may not have brought that out as well as it could be done. As to the stars, all I can say is that it is a Navy aircraft!

This looks better than my Panther. Then again my Tamiya was/is (it's in the paint shop) my first ever 1:35 scale AFV…if I ever get to your level of build quality I'll be a happy cockney 😘😇😊😊😁

By the way, you can always trust you Jakko to have an interesting subject matter. Something a little quirky or different. Never knew the allies had one. It was relatively common to use an enemy's vehicles I believe but it's still somewhat of a shock when you actually see it.

There are a good number of photos of captured Panthers used by the Allies, but Cuckoo is probably the best-known. For a lot more pictures of all kinds of captured German vehicles, take a look at this thread on Missing-Lynx: tapatalk.com/groups/..-allies-t337227.html

If you look at the new hatch door you built, if you zoom in a little it looks a little bit like the palm tree part of the DAK marking that has the tree with a swastika half way down its trunk. Or am I going mad? They do say the human brain tries to find familiar shapes in everything. Could be a case of that! 🙂

Jakko ‌ Schrijver
You mean on the Zimmerit? That's an arrow pointing up, to ensure the hatch would end up the right way round 🙂 I had to take care that the ridges and grid pattern on the hatch line up with those on the turret, and the arrow helps with that.

Bedankt 🙂 I now have to figure out what most of the other stuff is that was on the real tank when it was photographed near Geijsteren and in Tilburg. Some of it's easy, like a couple of jeryrcans, a bucket, etc. but other bits are very hard to make out.

Tomcat isn't a plane that you can easily build and paint. Especially in 48th scale.
I have always been lazy to splice those pics together after a day's work, I should do it too…
Did I use the correct word "splice"?

I like your profile pic too, got some musical implications 😁

Hi Chan Li, hope you're well thanks for commenting. Yes, hopefully I'll do a decent enough job! I'm using it as a build learning experience to be honest, first Cat I'll have made in 35+ years.

Yeah I just do it to cut down on the size of my albums, as aware my builds are all OOTB so don't wanna bore everyone too much! 😆 Yes, splice will do mate 👍

Yeap love the 80s tunes (before that was considered hip!)

Hi Thomas and Slavo, thanks very much for your interest and commenting. 🙂 I am slowly moving forward with this build, currently on some general touch-ups here and there at the mo prior to a gloss coat and the decals. Hope to get some new images on here soon 👍

Neil Schrijver
Thanks Petar 👍 you're very kind. It's not a particularly accurate rendition anymore, but hopefully the overall effect will be pleasing enough, I'll be glad if it turns out as nice as your Tomcat mate 🙂 thanks for recent likes guys too.

Next album to be updated the Revell 'Black Tomcat'. This is another older build, I started it in 2021 and it's taken me awhile to get around to sorting out some final shots. I may well update these at a later date. I'm not sure about some of the backgrounds on the final images. Hopefully it gives you an idea of the finished result though 👍

The kit isn't the greatest fitting in a few places and I made several build and paint blunders, all of which I attempted to subsequently rectify, some more successfully than others. In the end it became one of those builds I was pleased to just finish. Hahaha! If nothing else, I learnt a lot about how to try and attain a respectable black finish featuring some kind of colour depth - I didn't completely succeed. But this one along with my F-117 and F-19 have all helped me understand how to try and hopefully get some 'flair' into a flat black finish.

If I were to build this kit again I'd likely just go for a straight gloss black as I think no weathering at all would suit the subject better. I apologise again to those who like realistic depictions, as always with my work, it has a basis in reality, but there are paint liberties taken here and there 😉 Anyways, another album closed off 🙂

Oh well, another Beauty Mate.👍 Great work. I´ve heard that painting planes in black it's extremely difficult to attain great results 🤔 but you have the experience and nailed it 👍

Nice model 👍 unusual to see a black version....was it for nigh time operations?
Really like the Design of the Tomcat, l Googled "best looking aircraft and the f14 , Starfighter and Su-30 were top of the search.

Thanks very much talented mates for your interest 🙂 you're all super kind to comment. I'm very pleased that you like my efforts and thanks also to those who have liked too 👍

As far as an all black finish goes, I made quite a few errors, but @Rui I'll take that anyday, especially from someone as skilled as you ☺️

@Mr D, I believe it's a bit of a US Naval tradition. I'm not the best to talk about squadrons etc. Though I am also aware of the same Bunny livery being applied to F4s.... I hope this link is of some help mate...

The start is quite straightforward with the track suspension, the wheels and the two jigs to assemble the link-and-length parts. The body is then built with only the clearparts as the only intermezzo. I added the main gun with the Aber barrel and closed down the turret, but the secundary weapons will have to be attached from the inside out.

Thanks for the interest, the last part was glued today. Only 4 Voyager PE parts didn't end up on the MG. I also paid attention to the seams between the facets, they couldn't show up and had to be sanded sharp. Some clearparts are quite thick, it was hard to put chrome on the backside.
