Here we go a model from my past kids life wish list 😁
I'll try to add bits if and when I can improve the look but not sure what that'll be till I get there 🤣

A fun project. 🙂
I have this half-way completed with some improvements here and there.
Sadly I am stuck on the photo etch/resin torpedo tubes, unsure how I can fit them onto the moulded plastic deck.
I don't have a proper ladder at the back, so I'll steal that idea from you.
One thing I remember doing, was heh moving iirc one of the starboard port holes, a couple of mm upwards or something. An easy fix. I also cleaned up the portholes, inserting a styrene rod into the existing holes along the hull at the front after drilling them larger, and then cleaning things up. I have some liquid glass I can insert to create a "glass" surface for the port holes. Sadly, the liquid glass doesn't go fully hard, and can't be sanded properly afaik. Though maybe I am wrong about the liquid glass never going really hard, I guess I didn't have the patience to wait for the stuff to dry properly perhaps.

@Treehugger I will have to use liquid glass stuff as I forgot the clear parts before I closed the hull 🙄. The rear ladder is where the kit had it but I think it should have been a little more to the port but too late now, next pick will show why I think this.
Moving port holes too much for me and no plans to work to either so they stay as is. Hope you get go8ng again with your kit as I'd like to see another build as I go too. 👍

Coming along hope to get some primer on soon so I can check just how worn and beat up the deck actually looks

Really intriguing project 👍 Can´t wait to see the (certainly not insignificant) work still to come!

#Tom B you are not wrong. Think I've tried to do too much with this kit and the add ons, the Torpedos are a great example. I've had a go with the resin and PE add on kit but boy are they not that easy. There was no way I could get the propellers on the torpedo to stay on they just too small for me, ended up using thin copper wire in drilled holes and then pliers to flatten the ends. The launch tube was also detailed but difficult for me. I copied the eduard supports in plasti card as the PE was too long for this kits versions. So all four are a miss match of attempted upgrade, consisting of from bottom to top in photo
1 Resin Torpedo with home made props
2 Resin launcher and PE on kit support rails
3 Original kit part
4 kit launcher hollowed out and end cut off with use of rear door from torpedo add on and with home bashed rail supports (one side only)
5 kit launcher on home bashed rail (one side only)
🤪 after all that not my sure my attempted effort makes much difference will see once the paint goes on..
On paint never thought it would be so difficult to identify the right greys, everyone seams to be different shades, so I guess it doesn't matter to much. A note here the old airfix instruction don't help by using a dark shading to represent a light actual colour and vice versa 🤣
Wow this is the longest comment I've added to SCM top marks for actually reading it, till next time, keep bashing

Having selected my greys I've gone round and round trying to choose which bits should be light and which dark Never had so much indecision on a paint scheme. Look at what ref I can it appears virtually anything goes they all have variations on a theme so I've stopped worrying …

Thanks to all for their kind words. Now this kit is coming together I'm liking it more than I have been. Not sure it need the extras but the torpedo is a great addition and the extra torpedo supports are way better than the kit parts so I recommend trying to make your own with plastic card etc.
Cutting the cabin door so it's a jar and adding a simple cross bar for the signal flags ropes to attach adds bit more interest too.
Was surprised the tin foil flags were a little bit more tricky than I thought would be.

As regulars to masking fluid has this happened to others? Bottle was sealed and as been used twice about year ago and now solid!
Any recommended brands of masking fluid that keeps??

Hm, I noticed that a 17ml bottle of Vallejo's masking fluid, had gone rubbery and solid, and I had not been using that bottle for the longest time.
Although I do have another bottle of masking fluid ready, I don't want to buy more of them should they end up going bad, like bottles of cyanoacrylate.
Btw, I keeep my tubes of cyanoacrylate in a sealed glass jar, with lots of silica bags in it, which seems to work.
Sry, don't know of any bottle that might not go bad so easily, but hopefully someone else can chime in on that issue, recommending a particular product they know don't go bad so easily.

Now that was an inspiration to me when I somewhen build mine in the future. What a great outcome! 👍 I really like it!
