F-15A USAF Airfix
Box contents
Priming internal parts. Had some leftover primer in the cup and covered the vertical stabilisers too (waste not, want not) 😄
Started painting the cockpit
Cockpit done
Horrible fitting air intakes
Fixed (kind of)
Filling lots of gaps with cyanoacrylate glue
Glueing the fuselage
More filling and sanding
All sanding done. I don't think there are gaps but the glue is clear so they still look like they're there
Rescribing panel lines
Masked the canopy. This one is not hard so I didn't bother with aftermarket masks. Also applied liquid mask with a silicone brush. Very easy to clean.
Priming and painting white parts
The rest of the model was primed in black; this primer is not lacquer based and covers well, good stuff. Luckily the gaps are gone now.
Started black basing the underside
Black basing complete. We'll see if I don't ruin the effort with the paint job 🙂
Darker grey painted first to have less surface to mask later. 75% XF82 + 25% XF2
Missiles painted
Masked the darker areas. Tape, blue-tac, AK masking putty, paper, a bit of everything 😄
Lighter grey on. 75% XF83 + 25% XF2
Airbrushed engines area with Vallejo Metal Color aluminium
And dry brushed the nozzles with Vallejo Metal Color jet exhaust
Hand painted the wheels
And applied the decals. There's still a bit of yellowing although I left them in the sun for several weeks last summer. They improved considerably but are 40 years old...
Abit of panel liner
Some engine grease oil paint
And rubbed it off after a bit
Flat coat
A bit of weathering with oil paints
Satin coat
Landing gear, missiles and fuel tanks attached
Tail and stabilizers on, it's almost finished now

Thanks Maciej! The kit is rather modest compared to what you can get nowadays, but I'll do what I can 😄

As impressive as some of the newer kits are, they all seem like you can only ruin them or have to build them to perfection. The old ones, you can improve even you are not the best modeller around, like me. Impressive what you already did on this kit, looking forward to the finished model! 👍

Many thanks for the encouragement DerMattes, Nicolas. At some point I will run out of old kits in my 40 yr-old stash and will have to tackle new ones! 😨

Love seeing all these old kits been given some TLC. They are a real test of skill and you make them all look beautiful Alberto. 🙂

It is vintage indeed, but with a bit of patience they can scrub up well 🙂 Thanks Clement!

Ok , at first glance I thought this was a modern kit GWH etc , then I saw "raised" panel lines and realised what an incredible job you've done on this old bird . 👏
