Welcome Bernd! Managed to complete cockpit and front landing gear. The highly detailed 3D printed seats are a kind of mismatch to the rest of the cockpit as this doesn't show a lot of details - mainly decals give a litte bit of details. But from the very little amount of original pictures available for the J-20 and J-20S it seems the cockpit is very clean. The canopy will be applied in closed position so I don't spent more time on detailing it.

Welcome guys! Quite surprised about your interest in this build ... is not an every day build. Cockpit is finally assembled, canopy not glued in place as I'm still trying to find a way how to paint the detonation cords. Until now I didn't find a way, but it gives a little extra so I want to try to make them white

Scribing them from the inside and using white wash perhaps? I know it sounds risky 🙂

Thanks Lukasz - they are moulded but just 0.2 - 0.3mm raised. On the transparent canopy impossible to get to brush to the right place. Maybe it would work to do a similar approach as on self made masking of the canopy outside. Putting tape on, push it in the edges with a toothpick and cut it out. Everything will look better than handpainted in this case 🤷♂️

How about using thinly cut decal stripes? Or printing the decal yourself? Not sure how complicated the pattern is :/

Thanks Lukasz - I already tried this approach but failed. It's so hard in 1/72 … either I skip it or try to mask it somehow …
@Sergej: a nice idea … but the pattern is quite small and has a complicated shape 🙈

A little update on the build: I decided not to mess up the model with the detonating cords. I left them untouched ... maybe I will add a self-made decal from the outside, but I will decide this after I see the whole plane painted. Kit doesn't offer any rivets so I added a few ones that I could somehow detect on rare available original pictures. The new 1/48 kit from MENG helped a little bit. Nearly all defects from the injection mould itself, bad fittings, too big gaps have been fixed. Primer is on and pre-shading is done. At least I want to achieve a little tonal variation. Let's see if I have to do some post-shading.

Thanks @Cuajete. I'm excited to see the result after painting. I expect some post shaded ist needed as well

thanks @Cuajete. Never had to use so much masking tape as on this one. Gloss varnish is on, decals next when varnish is completely dry

Call it done. Client asked for a very subtle weathered build so only applied an oil dot filter to give it a slight operational look. Just a few streaks applied also with oils. I´m open for any feedback - just let me know 🙂 Many thanks, cheers and happy modeling

Thanks @Clement and @Bernd appreciate your positive feedback. @Clement: it is indeed ... placed next to 1/48 Eurofighter they are almost the same size so the J-20 is a real big bird 😁

That turned out beautifully! Hard to determine how much weathering should go on these jets - since they are so new, and the PLAF won't be showing any weathered aircraft on their promo videos that hasn't been cleaned! 😀

Thanks @CaptGPF. Indeed that was a challenge, but lucky me client is Chinese and he could find some more pictures. Mainly form the underside - the only area weathering was applied
