Does anybody know if water washable photopolymer resin works with tamiya glue? Thought that if i get the ol' 3D printer up n running i might make a few figures with this. Couldn't find anything on google about this though.

Although I've not tired it myself I doubt if Tamiya glue will work. On the very rare occasions I've used resin I have used super glue gel.

Yeah super glue basically glues everything. Though i have studied what tamiya glue, photopolymer resin and what kits are usually made of it should melt the photopolymer resin thus glueing it to any kit i would want to glue it to. But what do i know.
When you used super glue did you just use regular store bought super glue or some kind of specialized modeling super glue?

Just the normal cheap stuff. Both the liquid and gel are useful for different tasks.

I think Tamiya glue only works on ABS and polystyrene It will melt some other stuff but it wouldn't weld it. I've also used composite glues on some figures. [img1]

I don't know how you do it. As per usual my teenage self is going through another phase, or at least i hope it is a phase. Building models hasn't been as fun as it used to be recently. Sure i still enjoy it but its not the same. Knowing most of you on this site have at least been building for more than 5 years so i wanted to ask. How do you still find enjoyment in model building after all these years?

So i want to try something different, i want to build a crash. Now even though im still working on my type 97 vs pak40 moc im already planning ahead. Any tips for making a ripped ww2 wing?
9 September, 19:39
gorby
It isn't easy depicting a crash realistically. For example if you want a wing torn off the plastic would be much too thick. The gauge (thickness) of the metal on a Spitfire wing was about 24, which equates to 0.6mm – thinner than paper in 1/48th. I've seen people using aluminium foil, the trick is to blend the foil onto the ripped wing seamlessly. Not easy. Also don't forget there was a whole load of stuff inside the wings, main spar; ribs; fuel tanks; guns & ammo; wheels; wiring etc. So an empty space will just look odd.
Finally, remember that some aircraft weren't covered or made of metal ie. Mosquito was wooden and quite a few were covered in fabric which would have to be done completely differently.

It looks like a Transall C-160 in a smaller scale than your bf-109. Probably an early Heller kit. The decals look like left overs from other kits seeing that this plane is from the 60s and not WWII era.

Alright so for my birthday I got a Creality Halot one plus with 100-240volt 50/60hz 100watt 3D printer but I lost the cable and havent found a replacement on the internet. Why am i telling you this? Because i was looking if someone knew what cable would be fit for it because i know a lot of scale modellers have 3D printers to make new parts and convert kits. Thanks in advance

Happy birthday Kesa, that sound like a great present. Is it the power cable you are trying to replace?
If so, I've just had a look and it looks like it might be what is usually called a 'kettle plug cable'. Google it and see if that looks like it'll fit. Kettle cables are readily and cheaply available online, but check at home first because there may be one in a drawer somewhere. I have a few from old computer devices.

I think i already knew it was a kettle plug cable but as with my laptop too it needs a sort of brick to not overcharge it. Im not really knowledgeable in this area so im just firing blindly

Im actually proud of myself for once. So because im spending so much money on this moc i actually did some research on the tank and anti tank gun. I even watched nigels modeling bench for like two hours for tips and tricks on how to get better (thanks john). I was hoping doing research would make me less nervous but instead now i constantly have a feeling of dread and nervousness, which isnt good because school is starting soon and obviously that makes me more nervous so im just gonna continue doing research in the hopes that fighting fire with a Churchill crocodile works. (For those who didnt get it the Churchill crocodile is a tank with a built-in flamethrower so like fighting fire with fire) i really hope i dont mess this up.

Well i am having fun and i am satisfied with my models, especially my 1:72 F-14A (ill post a pic of it when i get to the city because its a real beauty) my 1:32 F-14A and my latest build the 1:35 challenger II. And about the getting better thing, i have gotten better over the last two years ive been building models. Ive gone from needing help to even build a model to building a model with foggy canopies, glue residue everywhere and broken decals to good(ish) paint jobs, relatively clean builds, good decaling and basic weathering. Im getting better and i know it. But i just cant help the urge to try and be better than everyone else, you know how boys are

relax and enjoy the ride. di not compare yourself with anybody (gorby is right that we had that easier because there was no internet when we statred). remember that most people only publish what looks good, and not all the mistakes before they got to today. what is more important, is to have fun with your builds. sometimes i think i had more fun when I was using paint to cover gaps (instead of putty, sanding....) than in some later builds where i was trying to make something more advanced. have fun and relax. try new techniques, make mistakes, and learn from them, but above all, have fun. at the end this is a hobby, an arr form, and nobody can tell you their work of art us better than yours 😉

Alright so since the most complex thing related to scale modeling ive done is almost accidentally used tamiya plastic cement as mouthwash you can probably tell im not good at scale modeling but i want my first moc to be good so im gonna buy primer, gloss, black wash etc but i dont know in what order to apply tamiya paint, black wash, gloss, primer and finally the decals. And im scared if i apply them in the wrong order im going to end up ruining 60-ish euros worth of supplies.

a model can certainly be painted with a simple brush, with no airbrush. but doing it correctly needs some skills. there are pleople that can paint a model with the brush and you will not see a difference with one painted with airbrush. i am certainly not one of them 😄 😄 in any case, the trick is to use very thin layers of diluted paint (same as if you use an airbrush)

As I said it's sometimes possible to brush it. Once I brush-painted an entire 1/72 PBY Catalina with a Tamiya aluminum pot. But if I would use that on my current model, it has details that would completely vanish because of the thickness of the paint. I would have to thin it almost as water not to clog up my perforated photo etch, it has holes of almost a hair thick. To get the paint to cover the shiny metal I would need multiple layers of it. But using it in my airbrush with an 1/2 part of thinner that can be done in a few stages with no risk of clogging. Here you see a primer of grey Tamiya XF IJN Gray and a finish of Lifecolor acrylic over that, and I can still add a matt varnish and not clog the holes. The models you chose should not have such problematic parts, but when you get experience you will notice if the paint on a model was as thin as it could be made. [img1]

Alright, hi its me again i just cant seem to stop posting here since im so curious about yall. What is the perfect and i mean THE perfect model building condition that could hypothetically get you through a divorce. Heres mine. A fryday, around 6pm (or like the first stage of a sunset), no homework, a BIG glass of iced tea in my cupholder in my room, just got back from claypitrc with a new model after almost going to latvia when trying to go home (this has happened to me before) and now i have a 1:72 mid WW2 german strike aircraft model on my desk, about to build it, i turn the tv on and watch youtube. That is what is the absolute perfect conditions for me. Sorry for rambling again i might just have adhd or a case of dumb child syndrome anyway byeeee (i just feel really energetic right now)

So recently i got an idea. Estonia has an air force, and an air force has planes, there is most likely a model for every single military plane ever made, so i checked google and found a model of a Aero L-39 Albatros. The EAF (estonian air force) uses one. So i thought it would just be cool if i could build a Aero L-39 Albatros but instead of using the given decals i somehow create EAF decals for the L-39. So just wondering if anyone knows or can make decals for planes. (Sorry for rambling again i just had one of those 3 am thoughs that even Einstein would be perplexed by)

another option to "make decals" is actually not use decals, but mask and paint whatever you want. you can use mask to paint many things, and then get the ones you can not make, from other kits. a national insignia of two planes of similar size and scale would be just perfect to be used for example. and of course, there are aftermarket decals set that can be used any way you want.

Im planning to make a moc with these claypitrc.eu/en/a/ta..i-tank-gun-pak40-l46 claypitrc.eu/en/a/ta..-tank-type-97-chi-ha , a few paints and some fake grass/whatever i can find aswell. But since its my first moc im looking for tips on how to make the weathering look more realistic and how to make the ground look more like 1944 japan. Im also going to use more advanced building techniques and keep you guys updated with regular pics of my journey. Ps: i am feeling a lot better as im making friends and venting to gorby (great lad who makes amazing builds.) Im excited to get back to my favourite hobby 👍

If you look at photo 23 & 24 of this album you'll see both being used:

So as of lately ive been feeling really depressed due to my unfortunate private life circumstances so ill be taking a break from scale modeling and everything in general until i feel stable enough to absorb a large blow, be it mental or physical. I hope you all have a great time building your model kits. PS: even though ive only been in the scale modelling community for a short time and scalemates even less i feel like im that one life long friend with all of you already. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much.

Building a kit from many pieces into something whole, might be symbolic for you.
And you don't have to build anything yourself to comment here and see things grow.
But it is all in your hands. Stay strong Kesa!

Dont worry mate, we all startet. My first model i build was a revell 1/72 corsair and i didnt even had paint for it. 😬
I can really recomment the tamiya thin glue and airbrush.

This F-18 was my first try using a crappy revell airbrush but damn i loved the result. I didnt had clearcoat or weathering stuff.
With the time and every model you learn something new and improve. I still try new things on every model and still mess them up.
Keep going. 👍

If you become good at it a good brush master can achieve brilliant results. After many years with the hairy stick I'm still rubbish at it but it's a personal thing.
