My Doyusha 1/100 Boeing 747-200 is finally done. I built the base using styrene sheet over XPS foam, and masked and painted all markings. I used Google Earth to take a snapshot of the exact taxiway at Fiumicino airport (FCO) in Rome, Italy. Good commission project of an iconic airframe in a nice livery, shame they're no longer flying. GE CF6 engines are 3D printed aftermarket from click2detail.net, thanks Andrew Forster for pointing me there. The model is just over 2' long.
The 3D-printed GE CF6 engines are from click2detail.net/ These took a while to get assembled and painted, and while they appeared easy at first, they gave me a few headaches. First came the fit, with plenty of sanding to deal with some seams which ended up removing engraved details here and there.
Then came the metallic paints, I used AK Xtreme metals, but struggled with combos of undercoating glosses and subsequent layers. Metallics can be delicate to handle, even though AK are quite robust. Btw, Tamiya tape can leave a residue on these metallics, but I was able to remove it with a q-tip and white spirit.
Finally, the attachment points to the wings didn't mate all that well, and I still have some work to do there. Anyway, it's all on me, not the cleanest of builds & paint jobs but I managed.
For the wings I used Mr. Hobby 338 for the light "Boeing gray", and Tamiya light gray primer for the coroguard. Tamiya gray primer, White, and Clear gloss spray cans.
