USS Robin - the bases
A full insulation plate with the hull cutouts and preparation of the waves with a gas burner
Only after working with heat, the plate is cut to the required size. This makes for neater borders
White glue is excellent to smoothen areas that have ended up too rough
Thick wall paint is stippled onto the base to create the desired surface texture
The gaps between the hulls and the base are filled with ordinary acrylic caulking
The base has been sprayed green and dark blue - no gloss coat yet!
The areas next to the hull receive the first coat of colour
These areas have been sprayed green
Spraying at an angle, some nice transitions between green and blue are possible
This base needs a few weeks time to fully cure and dry before the solvent-based gloss coat is applied
