Qatar C-17 Build
All the main parts glued and taped to ensure a good fitting.
Not as bad as it looked! A little filler needed on the wing roots.
All sanded and smoothed, along with a tiny bit of filler needed along the upper seam.
Damn!! Just realised that there is a gap on the leading edge wing root now!
Both outer nacelles needed a smattering of filler where they joined the wing.
If only I had realised, but these nicely filled gaps are actually meant to be left as gaps....
Had I realised....
All sanded down and smoothed now. Wings and tail all primed.
This is the primer I used - very cheap, but good quality. Thinned down with a bit of enamel thinners, it went on a dream. Brushed very smoothly indeed.
All primed except for the cockpit.
All done with no masking! A nice new, good quality brush, and a steady hand have done the job nicely!
Undersides painted in Tamiya X2 gloss white.
Another view.. not much difference to be honest!
Upper grey now painted on. Humbrol 128 proved to be a near perfect match to the real thing.
Gloss clear coat applied. The Humbrol is a satin finish.
Frontal aspect...
First of the big "Qatar" decals applied to the side.
Underside titles, and roundels now in place.
Oryx head in place on tail, and nacelles. Port side Qatar title in place too.
Winglet decals applied.
All decals barring the upper wing and fuselage walk lines applied.
View from behind...
Not quite finished, but thought I would see how she looked in the makeshift photobooth!
Yup - she looks grand!
Very pleased... Just the wingtip lights and rear ramplets to affix..
FINITO!!!! Really happy with this one.
A close up....

This has been a very pleasing build indeed. Worst bit has to be the stencil/overwing line decal placing. Very fiddly!
