Revell sometimes goes into the fight with really incredible detail in 48-scale...😉

Indeed. The detail was incredible enough to make me take out heavy machinery (thank you Proxxon micromot, for making quick work of it).

Need to be careful with this kit, was a gift from my wife many years ago. As it's the only model I got from her, she will watch my effort carefully.

Strictly speaking it is an Italeri kit in a Revell box. Their later Typhoon in 1:48 is miles ahead of this thing!

@Jasper good to know the newer is so much better. Can't choose, as it was a gift, but if I ever build another one, I know what to choose.

That's a beautiful 4th gen fighter...I am!

Jos, the fighter might be beautiful, but the model is definitely not!
Thanks for joining, also Roland, hope it will go well and be worth it in the end 🙂

I know Palo....it's definitely a great jet plane but the Revell kit has its shortcomings. You'll occur lots of fitting problems with the intakes, but beyond this fact if you have overcome these problems then you'll have a great model. Watching closely...!!

Ha, thanks Jos! Already spent a few days on the intakes. The hole just above them took some research to figure out it's not a mistake, just a badly fitting part and a hole should indeed stay there. Lots of putty and sanding to fix sinks and rescribing lines and rivets. The inner "tubes" also give me doubts, as there are big open gaps on the side. Still not sure if I leave them, or try fix them. It's a difficult place to do much.

Added a few more photos, cockpit is closed, pre-shading done. Actually the plane is painted now, just have to upload a few more pics.

Great work. Can't wait to see the finish!

Looking good, the nose-fuselage color transition is great and the shading of the grey also looks "very British"! 👍 Proves that pre-shading can actually work!😉

That turned out really well so far, great job especially considering this kit 🙂

And done! Just uploaded a few images of the finished model. Thank you for the encouragement along the way, it was great fun!

This is a tough kit and that's a great finish Palo. Love the shading.

Nice dirty result. Didnt realise you had to get the soldering iron out!

Thanks Nathan and playtime 222. I soldered the engine parts, as glue didn't quite cut it. Went quite well.
Thanks for the comment on sharing, first time the whole model was done with MRP paints, they are excellent. A thin layer lets the pre-shading show nicely through, multiple layers cover it completely. I also sprayed a different shade of grey over the whole surface through a dish washing sponge (through the more rough part, which I thinned to make sure I can spray through). This made the surface more interesting, but was a lot of work 🙂. Remembering all my trouble with Vallejo air, it's a world of difference. I hope I'll never have to use Vallejo air again (except for brushing, which works fine). Haven't sprayed Tamiya or Gunze yet, can't compare to them.

I'm the other way - sprayed T and G (fine BTW) but not the V :-/

Keep it that way 🙂 Vallejo clogs the AB as it quickly dries. It's also had to spray with a narrow stream, at least I can't. Never again.

Most important of all, my wife is impressed the model turned out this way, as she was worried it's just not good enough to finish nicely. And my stress of disappointing her with ruining the gift she gave me many years ago is now also over. It also got ves some extra satisfaction from seeing an acceptable result from all the effort. Maybe not as great as Nathan's, but I'm happy!

I am impressed as well 👍 lovely result and some nice pics! Congrats for a clear victory over the kit Palo!
Hope you gave your wife some hints that this kit is absolutely-- err ---that there are a lot of much better kits out there😉

I still love my vallejos - shake the bottle, drops pure in the cup, 35psi, 0,4 mm nozzle and bang! Hot water - spray - clean. Quick and easy, less sputter and less clogging no need for misty coat and stuff with this setup.
But I agree for low-pressure free-hand patterns or transparent layers I use lacquers.

I like your build better Palo. I wish I would have posed mine with the canopy down now 🙂

Been following this closely and I´m really impressed - the paint-job really catapulted it to the next level 👍

The color seems just right and the weathering perfectly represents a "used but not abused" EF as they are often found in RAF service. Nice one indeed!

+ I had a similar story working with MRP´s - started with a conservative "lets paint the thing somehow" goal, but as I worked out how easy the control is (and the cleaning...), it just pushed me on to experiment & try out new things... 🙂 - & wait until you get into the metal business, that´s where the real fun is hiding!

Thanks! I've been sticking to alclad for metals, the surface they create is fantastic. Lately had some issues though, they would clog the airbrush and it would either spray nothing or a giant blob. Maybe I should give MRP metals a try.
