I'm quite exited by this build as it's my first Eduard BF-109 & the kit is the most detailed I've seen so far. I'm also going to try the AK Real color range for the first time.

They are lacquer paints & I've had good results with them. Make sure you have some lacquer thinner before running them through the airbrush. I've been using the Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. Also make sure you have good ventilation. I can get away with spraying a bit of Tamiya indoors, but it is not so with the AK Real paint. Too powerful!!

I used IPA 70% on my first attempt and it turned to a rubbery mush but had fine results with lacquer thinner. Just be careful and check before running it through your airbrush. It is a great paint and is definitely replacing all of my enamels. I can't wait to try out that Russian Eggplant color.

Leave it to me to mess up a paint that can be thinned with anything😄

Great to see you joining Guillaume! Welcome! I've been using Mr. Leveling Thinner with Gunze, Tamiya, MRP and AK Real Colors with great results. I agree with Roland that a lacquer thinner makes the AK paints a bit more shiny, but also more smooth. They are very opaque, so even thinned considerably, they cover extremely well. What I like about Leveling Thinner is that it has a tiny bit of retardant in it to ever so slightly level out the paint more than straight lacquer thinner. I also find it to be not that 'hot'. Go give it a try, and above all, enjoy your build! 👍

The interior is almost finished. I had the yellow pipe breaking in 2 part when cutting it from the srpue 🤔. Once the cockpit was close I managed to lay it along the side of the cockpit and now it look aligned. Will post a picture later.
I'll test the AK color this weekend. Thanks for all your advices.

I got the to painting yesterday nights. I really enjoyed using the AK colors. I really like the speed with which it get dry. It allowed me to do a lot of small layers so I did controlled the pre-shading effect better. I did got a few gloss spot because I apply too much on a spot while creating some Highlights. I will do some touch-ups today and post shading if time allow.

I think it looks great. I will have to try those AK colors. I only have 2 bottles of them, and have only brush painted small parts with them.

99% done. Just need to finalized the external gaz thanks. I managed to to a little photoshoot when the sun showed up for 20 min today.
I get why the Eduard model are so popular for BF-109. Extremely detailed and with a good fit, I'm eagerly awaiting my Emil by the mail 🙂 .

Great looking 109 Guillaume, well done. I have an Eduard Emil, haven't really looked at it yet. Maybe I should.

Very nice work Guillaume! I need to get one of these kits. My 109F Trop was lost when my little one made it fly.

Thanks guys, Happy you like the result. The last months experience is starting to make the pre-shading better and the whole process of model building more enjoyable as I can relate on old experiences instead of interpreting Plasmo's (& others) YouTube videos.

As useful as all those YouTube channels may be, there is no better way of understanding the techniques of this hobby than diving in head first. One might hit his/her head once or twice, but the learning curve tangent from doing so, is worth it. And looking at your comment, the most important part is true as well, you're getting more enjoyment out of it. 👍
