Sakura Wars - Spiricle Striker Mugen (Seijuro Kamiyama)
Lots of sprues.
And disorganised workplace 🙂
And disorganised workplace 🙂
This time I tried a different approach.
On my last build I put everything together and painted the parts afterwards.
This time I kept almost everything on its sprues and painted the parts first.
Because these things are also designed to be a toy, to some extend, the different sprues are moulded in different colours, so that it is not necessary to paint this kit.
This made colouring rather easy.
After painting I let the colour dry for about a week, which made it somewhat resilient.

Not very proud of my figure painting skills. Gotta start somewhere...
But I think it's a little bit better than before on my first Sakura Wars project.
Used the airbrush for the uniform this time, worked a little better.
Details, face and hair were painted with the paintbrush. The paint too thin here and there. Still figuring things out.
The decal for the right eye moved a little bit. I am not very happy with its placement, but luckily I can hide him inside the cockpit-

Everything painted and put together. Time for some gloss coat.
In addition to the waterslide decals the comes with some stickers, mostly golden highlights. I used most of the but not all.
It helps a lot using those as they are used to give some raised details their golden colour without the need of extensive masking, some of them still give the model a toy-ish vibe. A thing I'd like to avoid.

Gloss coat finished.
The next steps will be a pin wash and decals. After that a few coats of matt varnish and then some light weathering, dirt and scratches.

Thanks everyone! 🙂
@S M: The eyes are decals. There are 3 pairs in total, probably in case something goes wrong. Seeing it again on the photo, the alignment of his eyes is bugging me even more. 😄

Never played the game but their kits look entertaining. Your model came out pretty well too

@S M: You're giving me too much credit, mate. I really suck at painting with the brush.
Or positively speaking: I can improve a lot. 😄
Thanks, JD!
Project finished.
I decided to do some light scratches with Tamiya Light Grey and Tamiya Dark Grey and do some heavy weathering on another project.
With these Sakura Wars mecha I think I will keep the weathering light in general. In the game the mecha are generally well maintained and I really don't want to beat them up that badly.
I think I made a mistake with the joints of its feet. I think I mixed up the left and right one which limits the movement and the possible poses to display this piece without it falling over, or the need to fix it to a diorama.
The golden stickers are okay but it looks like they don't like it very much to recieve some coats of varnish. Some of them got wrinkles and I am not sure if they will keep sticking to the mecha. So maybe I will use some more of the golden paint in future projects. There are still five more of these guys to build. 🙂
Thank you very much, Ahmet. The kits are quite fun to build.
The game was fun, too. Most of the time it is character interaction and some fighting. So kind of like Mass Effect, lol.
But I think I would have preferred some turn-based strategy combat like the old games of the series had not that hack'n'slash. It was still entertaining.

Thanks Simon. 🙂
I didn't build that one yet, but these kits are a lot of fun.

The mecha of Kamiyama Seijuro, captain of the Flower Division of the Imperial Combat Revue.
