BMP-3 bar armour
Test fit of the hull and turret. The hull wasn’t squared so needed rework to fit correctly
Road wheels on
Everything is sitting a lot better. Not prefect but much better than it was
Start of the photo etch bar armour. Soldering section by section
Left side bar armour soldered up
Trying to get the turret armour to fit
Had to move both antenna mounts to get the bar armour to sit right
Test fit of the turret bar armour
Repositioned the antenna mounts, test fit of the bar armour
Hull front bar armour
Hull front armour
The 3 sections of the hull front bar armour completed
Starting the of the 8 sections for the hull side.
3 of 8 sections completed. Dime shows the size of these sections
7 of 8 sections for the hull side done.
Section Y1 built. Only 5 more section to complete all the bar armour
The kit gives you the option of plastic part or photo etch mud flaps. So of course I went with photo etch
The metal sheets that the bar armour attaches too
The mud scraper the the instructions don’t give a clear placement
Modelcollect seems to have forgotten the part numbers on the instructions. Incase anyone needs here it is
Tracks on. I had to trim 1 link to get it to fit
Tracks on
Electrical wiring for the spotlights
Electrical wiring for the spotlight
My attempt at making a 1PZ-10 high elevation sight compared to the real thing
Added the armour cover
I didn’t like modelcollects PE for the hull MG guard so I made my own. Soldered brass wire to get what I wanted
Left scratch built MG guard
Right side MG guard
Front view. Pretty decent outcome for free handing these
Head light guards made with wire
Various handles made using plastic rod
Plastic rod grab bars
I chose plastic rod so I could replicate the flat sections that are welded to the hull
Grab bars and light guard
Hulls attached and start of paint. Used AK real colour RC098
Tracks and lower hull start of weathering
Trying out some washes
Redid the tow cable mounting hooks with wire because I kept breaking them off
Most of the left side panels mounted and weathered
touched up some of the weathering
Right side is a bit more beat up. I decided to make one panel a tricolour. To look like it came from another vehicle
I used spare decals to put on the tricolour pane
Start of the weathering
Added some exhaust stains
Periscopes painted
I messed up the bracket placement so this is the result. It’ll still work
Mantlet and the coaxial 30mm/MG painted
Mounting the turret bar armour
Diorama idea. Still toying with it so this layout may change
Well the turret bar armour is on and unfortunately crooked. I feel trying to fix it will do more damage
My first attempt at wood grain
Minor details painted and scratches added
Made a RPG motor and fins for a 3D printed RPG
Well no going back now. Hull side bar armour attached to one side.
Left side bar armour sections attached. Just a couple more sections to add at the front and rear

That looks like some challenging assembly-work 👍 I guess, soldering is really the best way to give those cage parts some integrity!
