Thank you! I know it isn't a great kit but I'm going to do my best to get a decent result out of it!

Thanks Villiers. Most of the hard work on this one is going to go into getting it to stick together and resemble a P-61. The old 1974 Monogram molds are not my friend. Also I'm not going to worry too much about extra detailing on this one. Going to close al the panels up to hide Everything, paint it black and stick a pretty lady on the nose to distract everyone from the raised panel lines and horrible canopy. LOL

That's stunning Gerald and I hope mine turns out 1/10 as nice. Wouldn't have guessed that was the Revell/Monogram kit. I'm actually pleased with how it's gone so far. Just going to keep trucking and see what I can do with it!

Absolutely. I may not build the best models out there but I do always have fun. That's what it's all about after all. At least for me!

Well, I've been letting this one slide as I finished up other projects and embarked on other ones but figured I'd drag it back out of the paint room. Canopy parts were atrocious but you'll have that on this miserable old kit. I'm building it as a historically inaccurate Lady in the Dark as I have an old microscale decal set lying around and I kind of like how the red lady looks. Even though she's supposed to be in a blue-ish dress. Also thought it would look good with the real Lady's red cowling and prop spinners so that's what I'm doing.

Yes, the canopy glazing isn't that great, I mostly use wood glue for gluing and gluing. If possible, a bit older then the glue is thicker and you can then smooth it out like silicone with a damp finger. The glue dries transparently and does not attack the clear parts. 😉

Gerald, excellent advice. I used acres of old Testors canopy glue smoothed out with my finger and a toothpick. I'll let you know later if that ended up working out. 😂

Finished! 1 highly historically inaccurate P-61 Black Widow. Lady in the Dark marking are all wrong but that's ok. I honestly had a lot of fun with this kit. It isn't perfect or even very good but I find old kits fun to dive into from time to time. I think it looks like a P-61 and will be happy to have this up on the shelf after many, many years of not wanting to build it based off internet horror stories.

Given the limitations of the kit, your perseverance has really paid off. It has turned out looking awesome. I like the distressed paintwork on top of the wings. Nicely done 👍

Thanks James! And thank you Robin! I figured out in the heat the top of the wings would look a little rougher than the bottom. Then of course the prominent exhaust staining you see in every P-61 photo. Was fun to try to keep some gloss while still weathering.

Bought this kit years ago before I knew of this website or how to research kits or anything like that. Actually the kit that introduced me to kit research. Lol. Has been languishing in my closet in a slightly started state for years. Decided I needed to get it out and finish it off so I’ve started working on it as my “waiting for paint/glue to dry” kit.
