It is again and again jawdropping to see an expert modeler turn a piece of plastic junk into an outstanding model. Absolutely impressive.
PS: cool trick with the tea bags. I got to scavenge some right away 😉

Stunning model! The thinner clear parts add a lot of realism – I'm contemplating something similar at the moment and feel convinced now.

Album info

My friend brought me this box from Germany about seven years ago. Since then, I have periodically opened it, sighed heavily and sent it back to the shelf. This is a very strange set from Revell, part of this box consisted of 1995 gate valves (at least I met such a stamp), and part, apparently, was added a little later.

Such a strange update was not provided with any additional assembly steps. Rough old casting, obloy, poor connectivity and very conditional detailing. There are a lot of inaccuracies and mistakes, so I had to saw a lot. Half a tube of putty went quietly and imperceptibly, sandpaper also took a lot.

And so, what had to be done additionally. I drilled all the ventilation holes, grilles were inserted into them. It was especially difficult to do this in the tail section, where the steering propeller drive transmission is located.

As a material for ventilation grilles, I used synthetic material from tea pyramids, they are very similar in texture and pattern of cells. They are well glued flush with the main planes of the sections with ordinary model glue. The tail rotor was replaced with a resin set from ResKit, the one that was in the set is very simplified.

According to the form, we had to make a new glazing, because the one that was had very thick glazing and there was also a fuel rod on the bottom, but there was not a word about it in the instructions for this modification. Well, on the glazing itself there was a terrible imitation of the wipers in relief, I made them separately from plastic.

I slightly modified the engines, the exhaust pipes had to be made from tin cans. I made a thinner and more delicate staircase along the ridge of the gateways. I redid the exhaust of the power plant, made everything thinner and drilled holes where possible.

I had to shorten the landing gear, the helicopter itself is clearly not so high in real life. I added hydraulics and other parts to the main rotor, and in general, where it was possible to add wiring and hoses. The lights on the bottom were given decals, drilled holes and replaced with foil lanterns.

Painted traditionally with acrylics from Tamiya. I was guided mainly by photographs, colors interfered with them. The decals turned out to be quite good and even made friends with external riveting and MarkFit. Tinting - a little pastel crayons, flushing of different colors, spraying exhaust traces with an airbrush. That's it, enjoy watching. Many thanks!
