It's a bit of a "blink and you'll miss it" one. I discovered a "lost" scene from Area 88 and got inspired to add to my 1/144 series of mini dioramas.
There's a scene that was removed from most editions because the Safari Rally scene has some distasteful "ooga booga" drawings of African natives. Still, I'm not a fan of historical censorship… but beyond that, it's a great Rally Car battle scene between a Porsche 911 and the legendary Datsun Z. So, a quick search for 3D files, some modifications to add the rally car lights and a run through my resin printer, and here we are.
Needed a bit of sanding and some primer, but the real challenge will be applying tiny transparent decals.

Oh , a speed build of fast cars 👍
You don't have to be afraid of the tiny decals!

Thanks Julian! It was a fun little project.
Jv - I didn't paint the wooden base... that would've been too hard. Like all my Area 88 1/144 projects, I use a homemade transparent decal. Basically I just print off the scene from the manga onto water slide decal paper, spray, pray, and slide it on to a slab of wood. The big decals are quite challenging to get into the right position without getting folded or torn, but afterwards I think they look very cool.

Thanks Jv. You're not the first person I've mystified with the decals on the base. 😉

i got to hand it to you, Greg, you really pulled of a hard-to-build diorama.
making rally cars in 144 scale is nearly impossible at this scale, fantastic job! 👍

Thanks Nils! Coming from you, that means a lot! After I found a "missing" few pages from Area 88 that I never knew existed, the inspiration just hit me. I've got an idea for a couple of other 1/144 scale car dios... including a pair of Lincoln Continentals racing through the jungle and an F1 scene (or two) from the Shintani manga titled "Gentle Man". So, stay tuned!
