Fokker F. I - 1/48 Eduard - Werner Voss

Assorted pieces, ready for painting and/or glue 

Engine is very nicely detailed, just make sure you face the spring rods the right direction 

trying different techniques for wood - wood grains draw with a pen for the floor, oil paints for the seat 

Seat base is wooden deck, and umber oil paint as wood grain 

The back shows better the wood grain 

The floor doesn't look bad at all, although if the marker was red or brown it would be slightly better 

The transparent wood decals work great, just weird that they are not properly shaped 

Machine guns are going to be painted with X-10 gun iron 

Cockpit ready and fits nicely 

All set for cockpit sealing, no stress so far with anything, this Eduard kit is very detailed and has great fitting 

The cockpit is very detailed and cozy 

No problems with fitting at all 

Closing the fuselage was easy and stress free

Ready for primer 

Primed with Tamiya grey primer 

Gluing the holders now so it holds strong 

Vallejo light blue coat 

cutting some crosses for the upper wing translucent effect  

Painting white stripes

The crosses do not need to be very accurate, they will blend in 

This propeller was done with deck brown, deck tan, and a great masking tape that lets you cut very thin strips, and bend them easily. look for curve canopy tapes. 

I guess primer on top of a photo-etch part wasn't enough to get enough grip 

The aviattic decals are nice, but the cone-shaped wheels make it fold, so you have to add a cut  

The cut is visible, can't to better than this I guess. I would paint the wheel if I knew. 

Adding the aviattic decals. They are actually very rubber-ish, robust and not fragile at all, they can take some abuse, but at the same time, they have a hard time to adhere. 

They look great, but they need to be trimmed, and they fold on the wing tips 

No amount of micro sol helps me with these folds. 

Using white decals for the cross background, as I do not trust the striped decals to withstand mask tape 

Engine ready with metal color aluminium, gloss coat and panel liner 

Tail decal. I place it properly, maybe a little longer in the water, because... 

..bubbles are showing up after micro-sol. This rubbery-like decals do not really conform nicely with micro-sol, instead it creates bubbles, so the whole decal job is botched maybe due to weak adhesive (too much time in the water)?, anyway, no way I am going to use masking tape on top 

The decal is resistant, but it can be scratched. It is easily fixed by butting some extra stripes on top, it disguises well. 

Ready for more decals. Note that the wheel winglet doesn't have an aviattic decal for it, so I had to make one. Good that they send a decal sheet big enough for 2 planes. This should be the rule.  

Ready for gloss paint. This olive drab color is quite different from the one in the decals, but also, since they are transparent decals, the final color depends on the light blue tone. All I can do is to mix olive drab with lighter green to tone down, but it will be very hard to match.

I was afraid that gluing all wings was going to make decal job harder, specially around main wing struct, but actually, the problem is that the top wing should be glued properly, and I had problems making it stick.

If I could do a do-over, I would glue all wings, cut the decals so it goes around the wing pylons, then apply the decals. The wing integrity is more important. 

All ready for weathering with a dull coat 

Werner looks a little disappointed with the work so far 

Quick weathering: smear panel line around the wing ribs, then scrub the excess off with mineral spirits.  

Stretching sprue for cables, painting them with gun metal 

Doing stretched sprue because I want to use plastic cement, but with turnbuckes, I had to use super-glue, so there was no really advantage. 

Putting the air intakes again, with the help of a little lead wire. I removed them because they would for sure mess up the decal job on the fuselage.
