P-47D NMF
Flory Wash applied directly over the decal and onto the bare metal
Flory Wash removed without any problem 🙂
Major decaying is complete. Hopefully one more decal session to complete the stencils.
AK 480 Aluminum is used as the base coat.
Priming with Tamiya Lacquer (LP-2 & LP-2) is complete. If you are looking for gloss.... this is a good way to go
Finger prints are going to be an issue going forward. keeping a polish cloth close by
I have to admit that I totally messed up the upper spine seam line. I attached the upper spine/vertical stabilizer (parts H1 & H6) to the fuselage halves (parts G16 & G17) before assembling the fuselage. The seam along the attachment seam was great, but the upper spine needed filling. VMS Black Flexy CA made it a quick clean up. The picture is showing where the CA has filled the gap.
Assembled cockpit ready to be installed
Last good look at most of the detail.
Eduard's Space detail set provides a nice upgrade to the cockpit.
interior parts sanded of detail that will be replaced by the Space 3D decals. Next up a coat of AK Real Colors RC264 Bronze Green
My first attempt at using AK extreme metal Aluminum (AK 479) over a base coat of Tamiya LP-01 Gloss Black. It gives a very deep shine to the metal, maybe even a little too much.
Eagleston's P-47 is a project I have been forward to doing for decades. Super Scale decals that I have moved around with for 20+ years held up wonderfully.
Tamiya P-47 is still one of my favorite kits to build.

Any impressions on the AK metal paints versus others? I'm looking to move away from Alclads because while they work well for me, the shelf life is quite short and since I only do the occasional NMF, I don't want to have to buy more bottles for every build.

Hello John. IRT impressions of the AK metal. I watched Phil Flory's B-17G video build and learned from it. I did not put a clear coat over the NMF. No problem with masking, decals, Flory Wash or the enamel wash over the OD parts. So... I found AK to be much more forgiving than Alclads. If I am looking for shine, I will stick to AK over LP-01. Next project I will see if how AK works over a gray base coat, hoping for a less fresh look for P-51D.
